JETS FRONT OFFICE FEELING MORE HEAT

The recent indefinite suspension of Jets defensive tackle Josh Evans has placed even more pressure on the organization's front office, according to a league source.

Though Evans is merely the most recent example of a string of personnel gaffes, some league insiders think that the Evans situation is the most egregious example of mismanagement. The source tells us that G.M. Terry Bradway was warned by others outside the organization not to sign Evans, given his history of violations of the league's substance abuse policy.

Compounding the problem is mild concern that first-rounder Dewayne Robertson might not be ready to step immediately into the NFL game as an every-down player. Word is that the Jets are considering the possibility of re-signing Steve Martin to help fill the void.

Per our source, several veteran linemen on both sides of the ball are opposed to Martin's return. He wasn't well-liked in the locker room, and he developed a reputation of spending more time and effort making excuses than working hard.

1-0 feels good for the skins week 1.

If we cast blame for the Jets signing a player with a bad track record, it's probably also fair to give credit for the following:

1. taking a chance on a player who exceeded all expectations last seasons and was a strong contributor;

2. eliminating the risk in the contract by recouping Evans' $3M bonus in the event of suspension;

3. adding the best NCAA prospect at the position where Evan's created uncertainty, despite many calling for a WR or LB instead.

Bradway's had his hands full this off season, and in a time when the fans and media are starved for stories, every event has been magnified. While some of the criticism has been justified, much has also been overblown - i.e., classifying the Evans contract as "egregious mismanagement" when the guy was a strong contributor, signed a virtual risk-free contract, was replaced with depth - and by all accounts, is likely to return and contribute in the 2nd half of the season.

"Flow - Keep spinning!!!" (Figured I'd save you a post).
