Redskins Team Report

June 13, 2003 Print it

Zeron Flemister is the team's best receiving tight end; he has good speed, runs sound routes and is difficult to cover with a linebacker. But his hands are too inconsistent. Flemister could get pushed by Robert Royal, who missed his rookie season (ankle).

Look for less stunting under new defensive coordinator George Edwards. He favors a man-to-man approach and expects his front four to beat the offensive linemen, which clears the way for linebackers to make plays.

Guards/centers analysis

Of all of its offseason moves, signing RG Randy Thomas was perhaps the team's best. He's tough, durable and enthusiastic. LG Dave Fiore is smart and tough, but he is coming off knee surgery. C Larry Moore is not overpowering, but he's experienced and gets good leverage. Rookie RG Derrick Dockery is huge (6-6, 347), quick and agile. He has picked up things so quickly that he has gotten repetitions with the first unit. When Dockery is in the lineup, Thomas moves to left guard and Fiore to center. This gives the team more size and speed at each spot. Wilbert Brown and Lennie Friedman can play guard or center.
