Elessar78
I was gonna say a similar thing, gbear. Even the simple act of running can be different on that surface and the fact that CR probably got to practice on that surface all week was definitely an advantage for them. It'll be okay. It's not like we're not going to S. Africa. Qualification is about your total body of work, not one game.
Kilmer17
Run, Im not sure why you think Ive said that THIS TEAM could win it all. In fact, Im pretty certain that Ive said they wont go anywhere as long as BB is the manager and the current player pool remains the same. What Ive said is the the US can win it all. And we are closer than you think. But as long as the USSF and BB are making the decisions, we're ****ed. 4-3-3??? With Marvel Wynne and Beasley as outside backs? And anyone here wonders why we just got shellacked? That game is the epitome of Bob Bradley. He thinks his son is gods gift to soccer and has spent 3 years trying to find someone to play in the middle WITH him to make the legit midfield pair, instead of finding someone to REPLACE him. Mike might become agood player one day, but he's total crap right now. So we look like crap in the first half except for one player, Torres. And so what does BB do? Subs him out right at the start of the 2nd half. I swear Im almost rooting for Honduras to beat us this weekend and then lose 3 straight badly in SA next week so maybe JUST ****ING MAYBE that piece of crap and his teet sucking son will never see the sideline of the US team again. buenosdiaz
Finally another person realizes the biased commentary made consistently by the guys they get to do U.S. games well i mean that i dont mind so much...when we play bad though say it. If you think thats bad you should see univision/telemundo when mexico plays and its not even a mexican channel! and most of the time the commentators arent mexican! god i hate mexivision lol How is Bradley holding his job btw (the coach, and well sort of the player) I dont get US players. Beasley and Donovon are both 27 but it seems their peak was ages ago
Elessar78
If we lose to Honduras on Saturday, we wont make it. Saturday is a must win game. Are these standings not accurate? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010_FIFA_World_Cup_qualification_(CONCACAF) We def, have to win some games but in a worst case scenario we're in a play-in game with a CONMEBOL team. But I don't think Honduras is a must win, nor do I think it will be a hard one.
renaissance
Mentally I don't see how we could lose at home to Honduras, then go play Italy, Brazil, and Egypt in the Confederations Cup and expect to have any kind of confidence going in to the rest of the summer. Kilmer17
The US has no chance of winning a 2 game playoff versus the 5th place SA team, The standings are accurate right now. But the US and CR have played one more game. If the US loses to Hondo, CR wins and Mexico wins (both expected with general ease) then the table looks like this- CR- 12 pts Hondo- 7 pts US 7 pts Mex- 6 pts. Then Hondo and Mexico get to play El Sal and TnT. So after those two wins, the table becomes- CR- 12 HON- 10 Mex- 9 US- 7 Our next game is at Mexico. Another place that we have NEVER won. So after that, we'd potentially be 5 points out of 3rd place. Dont fool yourself. Saturday is an absolute MUST win game.

Old Bay
This is disapointing, but I can't say that it is such a surprise that we lost (how badly is another matter). I had hopes for Bradley (the coach) when he was hired on, but it looks like I was foolish in that. I think we need to bring in a coach from another nation, personally. Does anyone know if there are any US coaches that wouldn't use this long ball approach? This seems to be the weakest team we've had in about a decade. scuppajones
I don't understand why the US does not hire a real coach. Bradley is barely qualified to coach in the MLS let alone the head coach of the national team. They need to hire a coach with international experience, Bradley has zero experience coaching international football. He will get them to the World Cup finals because the group they qualify in is so poor, but once in the Cup with him at the helm the best they can do is get out of the group stages. buenosdiaz
since the confederations cup was brought up talk about disparity amongst the two groups haha seriously spain could send their u-21 team and make it out of that group
Kilmer17
Yeah, but Im actually glad now. At first I was pissed because I always want to win. Now though, I hope we get slaughtered by Brazil, Egypt and Italy. I mean really taken to the tool shed. Bob is now Norv Turner. I dont think there is anyway he will get fired, but I certainly will be rooting against the US in non-WC games hoping, praying that Bob gets the axe. gbear
Kilmer, What point is too close to the WC to start making changes in coaching staffs? I think I recall a late switch by us a few WC ago where we went in and scored like 1 goal...for the round. How long do you think it takes a staff to learn the players available and their strengths, and how long does it takethe players to buy into a system they play in only infrequently for the U.S. team? Just a down side to a coahing change mid journy...and I think we're there. The time for change is after the WC before this round of qualifiers...I agree on the need, just not as sure on the timing. The U.S. fan base needs to see us in the WC to keep growing.

Kilmer17
I think we are in grave danger of not qualifying at all. Watch how good Mexico looks Sat and next Wed under their brand new coach. After our game Sat, we have 10 days to get ready for Confed Cup. It's a meaningless tournament, but it is against world class A side players. Fire Bob Saturday night, bring in the replacement, and give him 10 days to evaluate the talent. This isnt football. It's not as if the new coach is going to need a west coast offense QB, or a 3-4 OLB. Then he gets 3 games against world class teams before a month off, then at Mexico. It's not a perfect time to switch (that would have been after his opening round or 2nd round humdingers like losing to TnT, or beating Cuba, Guatemala and Barbados only 1-0). But it's doable. I GUARENTEE the next coach doesnt have Mike Bradley's name engraved into the starting lineup. We've had 3 years now to develop a left back. But last night we experiment with Beasley back there? And Wynne on the right? In the same game? While also taking away one of our midfielders that may have been able to help in the back? How many days has that team practiced playing a 4-3-3 over the last 3 years? a couple? We're not the Dutch, we dont have that kind of midfield skill. And last night we saw the result. TimmySmith
I think we are in grave danger of not qualifying at all. The US lost to a good team in a hostile environment. The US can still afford a loss to Mexico, so long as the they draw everything else, and the games play out as expected. I still feel that the October game here vs CR will decide the #1.
