Lombardi's_kid_brother
The more important question is:Who in their right mind would want to wear #21? Those are big shoes to fill in Redskin land Eh...Deion really wasn't all that spectacular here.
Spitfire71
This might sound insensitive, but Darrent Williams was a good, young corner who played for two years in the league. Sean Taylor was the most feared safety of the modern era - this coming from other NFL players. I'm not quite sure there is a comparison.

Sean Taylor was the most feared safety of the modern era - this coming from other NFL players. I'm not quite sure there is a comparison. Its not the magnitude of the player and how good they were, its a comparison b/c he was a teammate, a brother, a friend and he was murdered while he was on the team and part of the football family. That's why its comparable to Sean and number 21. So hypothetically, using your logic, Tyron gets murdered in cold blood, and then next season we can give out number 20. And its fine b/c he was just an average player. You are right, that does sound insensitive and pretty ignorant.

When did Sean Taylor become the most feared safety of the modern era? The man had one and a half pretty damn good years. I have the feel that Sean Taylor's ghost would sound a lot like Reno Hightower right now. "Hell, I get better with age."
NoleSkin21
IMHO this is a dumb topic. It has been debated in a hundred different ways in different threads. Not sure it can be called a dumb topic if so many people have extremely strong feelings on it one way or another. Talking about the issue and possibility of seeing someone wear 21 is catharsis for many Skins fans. A dumb topic is more like talking about Mike Williams weight, yet there are 5 threads open about him right now.

Jim zorn on the kiss cam has something to do with this team. Even Santana Moss cutting his hair has something to do with this team. Re-hashing a subject that has littered this board is a dumb topic and has nothing to do with this team. Next thing you know there will be 15 posters talking about how this thread made them break down into tears. It's a number, it has nothing to do with the player. My guess is that the skins will follow their standard protocol and un offiically retire it. So everyone thats reading this and is afraid that someone will wear 21. Step back off the ledge take your zoloft and rest easy.

flock53
Im cool either way, he did die senselessly and he WAS a super YOUNG talent, but he didnt do enough statistically to warrant retirement of his jersey, dont get me wrong, I loved ST and was hit just as hard as the rest of the fans. If it does happen, it should be farther down the road and whoever wants it shouldnt have to ask permission unless they feel like they should out of respect. flock53
We all loved ST, but what about another great Skin... Terry Allen who wore that #. He played 4 yrs. STATS: 52 games-1043 carries/4086 yrds/3.9 avg and 37 TDs. 100 catches/ 726 yrds/7.3 avg and 2 TDs. Yeah, one GREAT 21 TD season Compare this to the GREAT Clinton Portis' first 4 years. STATS: 55 games- 1147 carries/4616 yrds/4.0 avg and 34 TDs. 134 catches/1010 yrds/7.5 avg and 2 TDs. A part of me, just dont want a jersey retired cause the circumstance. skinsfan080
No disrespect to Darrent Williams, becuase I know he was a good player for the Broncos...but honestly Sean Taylor was the Washington Redskins. He is the best player to play on this team in the last 15 or so years since 1991ish, minus D. Green. I very well could be missing someone, but you understand what I'm saying... I hope no one ever wears the number 21. I'll always attribute that to ST, what he meant to this team and the 2007 team... I honestly dont think anyone ever wears that number for the Redskins again.. Redskins:Victory_or_Death
:rotflmao:that makes me think of 'icebox' from little giants I could deal with her on the team too. Seriously - can you think of all the cool PR we'd get? My wife's sister says we might have a whole new crop of lesbian fans. Would make the number of new Hawaiian "fans" look like squat. HoyaSkins28
Hopefully never. I know we only have one retired number (33) but I wouldn't mind if we put Sean Taylor in the likes of Sammy Baugh and retired his number too.

Step back off the ledge take your zoloft and rest easy. Easy now. This is a good topic and should be discussed. I don't think anyone is crying...most if not all have passed that stage. Now it's just remembering a great Redskin...by semi-retiring his #21 and keeping his memory alive. I too think one day it will be worn again...And I hope it is so I can tell my kids about the man that ounce wore that jersey and how he engergized the fan base and knocked the snot out of WR's and was feared around the league. Englands Team
In my opinion 21 should not be retired 21 is only a number. The memory is of Taylor 21 and that will always live on, that can be honoured by fans for ever. I do not believe the number will be reissued until every Redskin on the roster at the time has moved on and then it will go to a RB.
