downbeat87
as long as snyder owns the team, no one will wear that number. qft
downbeat87
I wouldn't care even a little. i know who Sean Taylor was and he was more than a stupid number. I get seriously weirded out by fans talking like he was the the best player ever. There are easy arguements that he wasn't the best safety in the league. I wish he was still here, and he wasa dynamo on the field, but, again, it just seems strange how he is hero worshipeed. My problem i guess just expressing it. he was the best safety in the league his last year... he was just coming into his prime; but i do respectfully disagree with you look up the stats. Oldskool
im not saying what happened to him wasnt tragic. but williams played one season and wasnt even the best player at his position in denver. i definitley dont think he meant as much to that franchise as ST meant to ours. What you think really is irrelevant. Williams impact was different and yet the same to the people of Denver and their fans. For you to marginalize that by saying that Taylor's death meant more makes you out to be a callous ass. And Taylor wasn't the best player on the team, he was the player that people had the mancrush on. Big difference.
@DCGoldPants
Remember, he was #26 in college, and #36 early on here. I think it won't be worn for awhile. But it will be worn again for the Skins. Another RB probably one day. As long as the Skins continue to do what they're doing after the loss of Taylor in terms of Redskins and seriousness. I think its ok. Cpt.Chaos47
I don't think anyone will or should wear 21. Darrent Williams was a good player getting better every year and his loss was tragic, but Broncos fans didn't look at him the way Redskins fans looked at Sean. He was quickly becoming,if not already the face of the Redskins. He also had the potential to be the best to ever play his position and we were getting a glimpse of that his final season. To be honest I think its to soon for the Broncos to be letting someone wear 27.
bgreg
Although Sean didn't really have enough time to establish himself as an all-time Redskins great, it's undeniable that he had tremendous fan support (21 jerseys were everywhere, more common than all except 26, 47, and 89) and was feared by receivers across the NFL. Ring of Fame and maybe Washington Hall of Stars, too.

ST meaning more to our franchise is my opinion, so relax with the namecalling. and taylor not being the best player on the team is your opinion. one which players and members of the coach staff disagreed with. CM916
I'd only let Ryan Clark do it like he wanted if he was still here. Anyone know if he is still trying to make the switch or if he still wears it in practice over in Pittsburgh?

Anyone know if he is still trying to make the switch or if he still wears it in practice over in Pittsburgh? I think he wanted to, but the NFL was going to force him to basically pay off the cost for printing new Clark jerseys with the number 21 on it. And for a guy like Ryan Clark who doesn't make as much when compared to like Polamalu or Bob Sanders, he can't really afford to do it.

TheGoodBits
21 is on the list of numbers the equipment manager is not allowed to give out. There was something on the redskins blog about it last year. It is there was an article last year about those numbers and the full list was in the articel 21 was def there...I think it was on the Redskins Blog These two are correct, in case you guys missed it in the last 3 pages of debate. #21 is "unofficially" retired, and will not be worn by another Redskin player again (unless it's like ST's nephew or something, I would guess). I'm sure there are at least one or two guys that have done so. But this is basically what the NFL does with almost every player if they've had the same number for awhile. I remember hearing in Oakland that Jerry Porter wanted to switch his number to 81 from 84, but the NFL was going to charge him a ton of money to do so. Crappy policy, but it is the NFL. ChiefPowhatan17
It's one of our non-issuable numbers. Even though 33 is the only retired number. Unofficial non-issuable numbers 7, 9, 21, 28, 42, 43, 44, 49, 65, 70, & 81....
icbmayday
Yea if it wasnt going to be CP wearing 21 no one else should wear it. The number needs to be retired
Loyal2Washington
I am personally not a fan of retiring numbers. Honoring players in the ring of fame to me has always been the proper way of enshrinment/rememberment for Redskins. If a player wants to wear 21, 28, 44, or any other "unissuable" number then they should be man enough to take on the responsibility of wearing said number. Whether or not Joe Blow fails while wearing 21 will in no way cheaping Sean Taylor's memory.
mcarey032
I agree that 21 won't be worn for another decade or so. I doubt sincerely that anyone would want to carry the mantle of trying to wear 21. I think that if a player who was established in the league already like an LT or someone of that stature were to come in wear it, then most people wouldn't complain, but if it were some 5th round guy trying to pull that number it would be shot down and with good reason. It really will depend on who would want to try and wear the number.
Always Remember 21
I definitely think that it should be retired. I can't imagine seeing someone wear it. It would have been nice if they retired the number at the Giants game last year. The only person that I think could see wearing it is Sean's little brother or a nephew. Rocky52Mc
I say we shouldn't bring back 21 until all this has passed. And that would probably mean...the majority of our prime players are gone. Moss Portis Campbell Landry Smoot Rogers Fletcher Carter ect. When these guys are all gone, maybe one day.
REDSKINZ-RIDEORDIE
somebody will wear 21 again. I love ST but u cannot retired that number. I think redskins waiting for 1st round DB to wear it. Lombardi's_kid_brother
I thought once a players name was added to the ring of honor it was officially retired. Guess I was wrong. If 21's an eligible number retire it now. That's Sean's forever. God bless the man and his life. Christ, we would have no available numbers if that is the case. The only officially retired number is 33. I find the whole idea of unofficially retired numbers weird. Either retire it or use it.

KDawg
The more important question is: Who in their right mind would want to wear #21? Those are big shoes to fill in Redskin land
