RDSKNfaithfull
This is the hottest debate for us right now. Hopefully we wont have to choose but worst case, what would some of you do???? For the people that say Champ, I say this what shutdown corner does Tampa have???? Lavar Is unreal his size and speed, if they let him use his instincts this year wow is all I can think. He is 10 times the leader Champ is and has made it clear he wants to be a skin for life unlike Champ. I guess you know who I would pick.
phishhead
Champ is the best DB in the league, IMO. Lavar is a top 5 LB at best. Gotta go with Champ. I could sit and bring up all the pros and cons of each player, and their importance to our team, but it isn't worth it. Champ wins every time. RDSKNfaithfull
D. Green could have been considered a shut down corner, Im saying you dont need a shut down corner for half of the field to have a great D. Lavar has had more impact on our team I feal He turned around our season in 2001 and last year played well despite Marv trying to make him Peter Boulware. And Samuels is not better than Lavar lol he has been bothered by injury and not played to his potential last year.

AJWatson3
what makes this decision tough for me is that we haven't seen the best of Lavar yet... we all know both are pro-bowl quality players, and that Champ has already reached the tier of top-notch shutdown corner, but Lavar has something so very special and i don't want to see him put it all together somewhere else.... i say we just sign both. TheDiplomat
Sign both. IF we have to let go of another one of out probowl caliber players (Samuels, Jansen, Trotter, Gardner) let ONE of them go first because our O-line is solid, linebacker is solid, and WR solid. Trotter or Gardner get my vote if the option is to ship someone else out the door. Not sure who I'd pick between Champ & Arrington.... so I'll exercise my freedom and wait to see what happens this season;)
Reaganaut
If you know anything about Defense, it is obvious why Tampa Bay doesn't need a shutdown corner... the defensive line mauls opponents. They don't need "coverage sacks" the type of which a great secondary will get you. They blow through people and the QB craps his pants. Unless you think the Skins can replicate Tampa's line sometime soon, you'd better think twice about Bailey. Lavar, however is a real gamebreaker and Champ hasn't been the difference singlehandedly in any recent games I can think of.

No QB is dumb enough to throw near Champ, so why would he be in a position to make huge plays?

RDSKNfaithfull
We all know how Tampas D works lol. One cover corner is not going to save your whole team, lol Champ is my favorite corner in the league but he was thrown at and scored on and with teams running three reciever sets one shut down corner will be pointless if the other two are not doing anything no One player can effect a defense most of the time by his play alone. If you asked the ravens who they would keep between Ray Lewis and Mcallistar who do you think is more valuable, Tampa Brooks or Ronde Barber??? Chicago Brian or Mcquarters. Im just throwing it out there because some people say a cover corner is more valuable then a linebacker thats not always the case. The skins first have to look at our division Champ had problems with Toomer and we know he cant check Shockey, The Eagles He could shut down one of there recievers but all of them are mediocre and we done benefit by one of them being covered instead of the other one Then there is Dallas They will be having Bryant comming to life soon and plus Galloway washed up and Glenn washed up but they both can work on second and nickle corners. Lavar has an upside and is a leader . I hope we keep both of them because they are my two favorit redskins but if it came down to it I would take L.A. Champ is still the man though

fish
I'd have to agree with Champ24Bailey - do whatever it takes to sign both! Put I think the point of the question is to make us decide between the two. While Champ is easily one of, if not THE best at his position, I'm picking LaVar. All of these have been said before but I'll roll them up: - LaVar has not reached his potential due to getting jerked around by new coaches and their schemes. The difference in the nature of their respected positions reduces the friction that Champ has had to deal with. - LaVar is a gamebreaker. We've seen it before and I think once we settle down, keep the same coaching team together for more than a week and stop playing fantasy GM and build some cohesiveness, LaVar will reach his expectations - LT type player. If we EVER build a sound D-line, look out! - LaVar is a leader. Again, we need to do whatever it takes to keep both, but for the case of argument, if I had to choose, I'd take LA.
