"I fell asleep last year. I don't have a lot of respect for the NFL draft, to be honest with you, because of my experience. I think what's more important is what happens after the draft. That's what I care about. I just don't have a lot of respect for the NFL draft process. Obviously something's not right, because they make a lot of mistakes, year-in and year-out." Wow. Strong words, no? "I don't care," he said. "It's the truth. I don't ever have to go through it ever again." That's for you CB lovers......
CRobi21
Damn, he sounds pissed about going in the 6th round. But I love this quote from him, "I think what's more important is what happens after the draft. That's what I care about." AWESOME!

You should be a CB supporter also. You know why? Because he's a member of the washington redskins. You should be rooting for his success, not making asinine comments such as the one above. Burgold
Dem some bitter apples, but to a degree he's correct. People do get drafted where they do for a reason (sometimes a bad reason, but a reason nontheless). Still, once drafted everyone should be (but they aren't) on an even playing field and get a chance to prove themselves.
MattFancy
I don't see the problem with this. I guess he felt he should've been selected higher. I think the draft is a joke. Does it really need to be televised for all 7 rounds? I pretty much only watch when we pick. Its pretty pointless and just another way for the NFL to get TV time and money. terpskins10
I can get where the gripes come from, and I can't say I disagree with him that the whole combine/workout crap is dumb and a lot of mistakes are made. However, what did he expect? Even though he was a projected 1st rounder after his junior year, I definitely saw the guy falling. He's talented and intriguing, but teams are investing a lot of money in these guys. Brennan had a ton of question marks and he shouldn't have been surprised to fall so far. It's hard to shake the stigma of Andre Ware and guys of the like when you're in the offense that he was, with the type of mechanics he has. zoony
Pretty accurate statement there... I got no problem with it... My first thought as well. it's pretty amazing actually that with this much money at stake, organizations across the board consistently flop year in and year out. Is it REALLY that hard to evaluate talent? I guess so. I think it speaks to just how competitive the league is.
CPortJGibbs89
Sounds pretty spot on to me. I think one of the biggest issues with the draft is the top 10 picks making 10 million a year without ever stepping foot on the field. The top 10 picks this year are going to make more money then 99% of our football players besides possibly Albert but he most likely wont see the full length of his contract. So most likely they will make more than all our pro bowlers on the team without ever proving a thing. Unless they do something about putting a cap on rookie contracts its only going to get worse and worse. Man how sweet would it be to be drafted in the top 10 over the next few years and get like 30 million in guaranteed money and even if you dont do **** you still are set for life. I have a really big issues with that especially with the economy only getting worse.

The 70-80 million dollar contracts are just insane.
Truant
The draft is a sham. So many of these players won't stick in five years. The disparity between a high pick and late first is huge... in terms of compensation. The evaluation process is crazy. Getting into player's personal lives... fidelity and all that. Because I'm sure the NFL doesn't have players that cheat. They spend all these months breaking down these players and finding the flaws. So many players, not just Brennan, has family and friends tuning in and just hear about their bad character, lack of ability, level of competition, etc. It has to be embarrassing. These kids are in their early 20s. That's a lot of pressure and commentary to be heaped on them. Yes, evaluate and make an informed decision, but it really is starting to get out of hand. I like the draft because it's something football related in April. But if I were a player I would remember being poked, prodded, and judged. And coming drafts would just mean less job security. I don't think any players should like the draft.

mnb123
Vernon Gholston- 6th overall pick 5 year/50 mil, $21 mil guaranteed. Jerod Mayo - 10th overall 5 Year/18.9 mil, 13.8 mil guaranteed. Gholston is looking like a bust, Mayo making 1/3 of his money and was rookie of the year. And this is just 4 picks difference. Someone like Horton comes in, doesn't make jack, and plays better than some of the top 10 players.

rgibbs
June Jones was interviewed on the local ESPN affiliate here in Hawaii this morning and I learned something about Colt I never knew before. Jones said that prior to the draft, he only got one call from an NFL coach asking about Brennan. It came from Jim Zorn. Jones thought he would hear from a ton of teams but Zorn was the only one who called him. The real surprise to me was not so much that only one coach called. The surprise was that it was Zorn. For some reason, I had been reading between the lines that Zorn didn't particularly care for Colt. Not sure why I felt that way. I guess it was just a vibe I would get from Zorn whenever Colt's name would come up. Not sure what all this means in the big picture, if anything. Laxpunk2006
I don't see the problem with this. I guess he felt he should've been selected higher. I think the draft is a joke. Does it really need to be televised for all 7 rounds? I pretty much only watch when we pick. Its pretty pointless and just another way for the NFL to get TV time and money. Then don't watch it. I personally enjoy the draft, it's just one little hint of football to help hold me over untill mini camps and training camp. It doesn't cost me anything other than time, which I'll be spending doing homework as I watch, and the small amount of power for the tv. Does it need to be televised? No but neither does the regular season. There is a demand so it's meant. No one is forcing anyone to watch it that doesn't want to, and it's not really preventing anyone from seeing something else. On one hand I agree with Colt Brennan, there are a lot of mistakes made in the draft. If it wasn't for the salary structure it wouldn't be such a big deal but as it is a mistake can be a huge one. On the other hand Colt really comes off as bitter after not being drafted higher. I know every prospect considers themself one of the best, that's the confidence they need to succeed. At the same time Colt should understand that there are negatives in his evaluation and they dropped him accordingly. Like he said what really matters is what happens after the draft. If he can ball he will, and he'll get paid accordingly. If he can't he'll be gone just like any first rounder would be.
THE HAMMER'IN HOG
He has a bitter taste in his mouth from his experience, the draft is obviously necessary, but he will have an opportunity to show how dumb some of these teams are who passed him by, or he can prove how smart they are, either way I think he gets an opportunity to prove something this pre season. Personally I like his chances on making Zorn look good!
