guitar people - Fender amp question

Recommended Posts

I have talked about this decision with about 400 people, but im just doing my due dilligence and getting as much feedback as humanly possible.

about to get a new guitar amp.

it has come down to the Fender Hot Rod Deville 2x12 vs. Hot Rod Deluxe 1x12.

the Deluxe is a 40w, while the Deville is 60w.

im not too worried about the wattage other than the fact that i often read how the Deville is too loud and not really feasible when cranked past a 1.5 or 2.

ive got a very nice 5 watt practice amp that i will practice with (duh) and take into the studio in May with my band.

need something that can cut through drums and a Mesa Dual Rectifier.

im not worried at all about distortion tones. looking for a great, loud, crystal clear clean amplifier and thse two look like the best options for the money.

just seeing if anyone has an opinion on this decision?

should be noted that the Hot Rod Deluxe i'm checking out is a 2003 Limited Edition with blonde grill cloth - its a pretty good looking amp.

any help is appreciated!

thanks!

I've got a Fender1x12 amp from about 1914 that I got from a pawn shop.

Well it's not actually from 1914, but I'm just sayin it's very old. But I can still get a great, sharp sound out of it when I play on my neck pickup on my explorer, I have it up in my room to practice on. It has only one effect installed into it, but it's still pretty good.

Basically what I'm saying is that Fender makes some quality products, and you can't go wrong with them. From my experience.

Well I have the delux and my brother has the deville...we have both used both a ton... the delux cranks and will def giv you power but the Deville is SUPER POWERFUL

The tone on both of them is the pretty close they both sound amazing... both are a great amps Deville = Louder

Now like I said the Delux is still HELLUVA Loud and is way lighter so if lugging it around is a concern then you should factor that in also...

thanks for the feedback. i will be using the amp to play gigs.

i have heard from some fokls that the Deville is actually TOO powerful. the last thing i want is an amp that needs to be kept low on the dial (i.e. tone sacrificed) in order for me to use it

thanks a ton!

Whatever Amp you decide on just make sure you have a decent mic for it. Personally I would recommend the Vox AD__VT series. I have the 30 watt one for when I don't want to haul my Marshall HS around. Best thing about it is it has a lot of effects built in. Plus they sound better than a lot of the cheaper processors I hear people playing.

thanks to everyone for the advice

after meticulously inspecting (i opened the circuit boxes up) and playing both of these amps, i went with the Deville.

it was in NEW condition - still had tags on it, original box, the clear sticker over the logos, etc.

the owner showed me the original receipt (purchsed only several months ago).

just had a great feeling about it and of course the amp blew me away.

very excited about this.

this thing is pretty sweet. ive had a lto of time to mess with it and it sounds real good in the studio setting.

im going back later today, and the only problem is that im dreading lugging it there.

looks good in my room though ha

Is that a tube amp? If cranking it too loud is a problem but you want to get that maximum cranked up tone I would suggest buying a hotplate.

http://www.thdelectronics.com/product_page_hotplate.html

It allows you to max out the tone without having to turn the amp up to a billion. My brother uses one on his Mesa-Boogie dual rec. since these days we do a lot more playing in our basement than anywhere else, and it sounds great.

i looked into the hot plate and it is pricey but a good product it seems. might wait a bit on it, but def is a good suggestion. thanks.

also once i really get acquainted with the Deville i will mostly just use it for band rehearsals, shows, and recording. the little 5F1 is perfect for playing in my room.
