paintrain
shouldn't the title of the thread "light bulb comes on?" I mean, if it goes off, then isn't that kind of a problem? Sadly, I think that by saying "player" you eliminated the guy who I was going to nominate: Jim Zorn. For player, Montgomery. Playing next to AH should help him out. lol, I thought the same exact thing. Ok, to intent of the original question: I'd like to say Landry but as long as Blache is intent on him playing 30 yards away from the ball I don't see how he can make that type of impact. Teams don't ever throw deep on us, they dink and dunk which negates his presence. So in saying that, I'd love to see Kareem Moore emerge as our starting FS. He's got nice speed, range and coverage abilities. He needs to be solid so we can move Landry back to SS where he can become that Polumalu like forece. The one I am expecting is Devin Thomas. After his first couple of boneheaded pass interference penalties he seemed to play much smarter and under control as the year went on. I think he was trying to do too much, too fast and the game was too big for him. I see a lot of potential in his game and with the work he's putting in now, I expect to see a dramatic improvement (50+ catches, 700+ yards, 5+ TD) this season. Dark Acre
I hate to nitpick, but technically wouldn't it mean their light bulb was turning "on" instead of off? Exactly. For light bulb going "off" see Aikman, Troy; tackled by, Arrington, Lavar. :dallasuck
moondog
I think we will see big things from Kareem Moore. I think he will end up being the primary safety opposite Landry before the season is over and Horton will see a variety of packages that allow him to play near the line of scrimmage in situations where we only really need one "traditional" safety or where we have several DB's on the field. Horton rarely played what most would consider a safety last year and was almost more of a LB playing at the LOS and covering TE's. Moore has widely been touted as the better athlete and more natural player and coaches consistently mentioned him in blogs and such from redskins.com last year as someone who really stood out in practices. He was drafted so low due to an injury, not because of ability. This is a guy I expect to end up as the starter with Horton and perhaps even Doughty seeing the majority of their action in special formation packages. PROSCOUT
This is a really good thread subject. The most interesting thing here is that we have practically a whole team of guys like this. Landry has not quite caught on yet and could become a pro bowl player but we still need a pass rush to make an effective safety. Rocky, same thing here. He has to play just a slight bit better to make the pro bowl but he still needs upfront help to get that recognition. Heyer I agree could elevate his play, Dockery coming back home MIGHT make the PRO BOWL. He has the physical tools. Now, if we just had a lights out PUNTER! Chris Wilson may wind up at LB and be stellar.
Vicious
Uh, Laron Landry has done exactly what we've asked him to do and is a major reason why we do not give up a lot of yardage. He has excelled. Do you know why he has does not have a bunch of interceptions? Who throws it near Laron Landry? Nobody.

Do you know why he has does not have a bunch of interceptions? Who throws it near Laron Landry? Nobody. It's true he has. It's a little disappointing that a potentially really great player is asked to play a role that basically makes him disappear. Maybe with some pass rush they'll be some tossed up balls his way. darrelgreenie
I don't really see how having our best playmaker playing 30 yards off the ball helps anyone but maybe that's just me. Allow me to explain. In a typical defense there are two tandem safeties. In Landry's role as Single Deep FS he is being asked to cover the same amount of ground as 2 safeties in a Cover 2 scheme. He covers deep sideline to sideline by alone. In this role he absoultely cannot get beat deep. Therefore he has to move back. The genius of the scheme is that because he is back deep its actually harder to throw deep down the sidelines because he can see the play develop in front of him and has less ground to cover then the receiver because he is moving horizontally where the receiver has longer distance to travel vertically to get to the ball. Standing dead center in a football field divides it into 2 28.25 yard halves. Landry runs a 4.3 40 therefore it would only take him 3.0 seconds to get to either sideline running horizontally from the middle of the field. Now, with Landry covering deep by himself it allows the SS the freedom to play in the 'box'. Basically you can thank Landry for allowing Horton/Doughty to play in the box, which is key factor in our ability to stop the run. "He adds a great deal to our defense," Blache said. "I'm excited to see him get out there and be our angel back there On safety LaRon Landry: "Well, I'm a fortunate man to have LaRon Landry on my side now because he's very versatile. He sort of distorts reads at times because he appears like he's in a position like other DBs, but once he reacts and responds he actually makes up more ground than most other defenders that I've been around. He makes what might be a big play into a batted ball or an interception. He's very skilled."

PROSCOUT
Campbell's filament is disconnected ... he will never turn off ... or turn on. Shame. Despite the fact that I normally have little to no respect for Jason Campbell haters because they are completely short sighted and have no vision of why Campbell is not progressing the way they want, despite the fact that he is ahead of several Great QB's at this point in their careers INCLUDING Steve McNair, and despite the fact that I think you Campbell haters are a trend of bush league fans who only know how to criticize and do not know how to appreciate what you have, which is a solid ball club, and despite the fact that You seem to have a very low capacity for understanding the game of football because QB is a position that cannot be learned and unlearned with rapid succession, which is what has been happening to Jason Campbell by forcing him to learn and unlearn a new system every single year with new coaches and new receivers, all the while expecting him to perform like peyton manning who has been in the same system with the same people for years upon years, and despite the fact that it gets old even hearing the same old tired inane comments from you Jason Campbell haters and I would simply prefer if you would go to the Cowboy board and root for Dallas if you find so much wrong with our QB, despite all of this..... I have to tell you that was one hell of a funny comment you made and I am still laughing.:hysterical: CAMPBELLS FILAMENT IS DISCONNECTED! good one!
