LaxBuddy21
As an aside...I have no problem with pork projects. My problem with pork projects is not the projects themselves or even the money spent on the projects. My problem is that is what drives the election process. Its the old "you scratch my back and I will scratch yours" adage. I really hate that our elections are driven by who has the most money and who can appeal to the right businesses etc... rather than who is really the best person for the job. Elected officials do not do what they think is best or what is in the best interest of their constituents, they do whatever will get them re-elected so they can keep their cushy life style. SkinsHokieFan
Well, Medicare/Medicaid make up close to a third of the Fed budget. Miltary another third. So it actually is kinda dumb to make fuss over 1% when tackling and streamlining 66% would have more of an impact. Medicare/Medicaid/ SSI make up 1/2 The military comes nowhere near 1/

Elessar78
Yeah, 84% of discretionary spending goes toward some sort of defense related issue. And discretionary spending as a whole accounts for 1/3 of the Fed budget.
