T-Rock's Take on the Giants

The schedule for the schedule

At 7 p.m. on Tuesday we'll unveil the Giants' 2009 schedule right here in this space (or you can watch it on ESPN2 is you are so inclined then come back here for some analysis!). Here's what we know so far ...

The Giants will open the season on Sept. 13.

The Giants have asked not to have any Monday Night Football games played at home this season. I'm guessing that request will be honored, but we'll see. The Giants will play on Thanksgiving Night -- Nov. 26 -- in Denver against the Broncos.

Some dates to circle once they become available: Giants at Saints (Jeremy Shockey), Giants at Bucs (Derrick Ward, plus all this recent backlash against pirates), Giants at Cowboys (first game at the new stadium in Texas), and the final regular-season game at Giants Stadium.

I'm also keeping an eye out for the bye week. Having it in Week 4 of the season last year really hurt the team down the stretch.

Would be nice if the article said why this request was made. Maybe construction of the new stadium next door is making entry and exit into the existing stadium a bit more problematic but who knows......and wouldn't that also apply for any potential Thursday or Sunday night games?

Parking near the stadium, is unable to accommodate all the normal weekday work plus the fans for the game plus construction. So Thursday yes, Sunday should be no problem though.

I'm surprised by this. It isn't like the stadium is in the middle of the city.

That's true, it's not in the middle of a city. It's actually in the middle of nowhere, but rush hour traffic on any weekday is horrendous in the entire metro area without adding to it with stadium traffic, especially for someone driving from Long Island. There are buses to the game from the Port Authority Terminal in Manhattan, but many thousands of commuters use them to get to their homes in NJ already. So Sunday Nights or Thanksgiving would not be as much of a problem.

The issue is that with the new stadium the parking lot is reduced in size at the meadowlands. So the Giants rent out "satellite lots" nearby and provide a shuttle service to and from the lots on game day. The problem is that these "satellite lots" are located in corporate parks near the stadium, so during the week the lots are filled with workers at those buildings.

Yeah I've never been to the meadowlands myself so I wouldn't know but I have read that a couple different places.

Parking at the meadowlands isn't that big a deal, they seem to have a fairly large parking area. Its exit 18W off of the NJ turnpike if I remember correctly, but its been a while since I have been there. I'm not sure how much the construction of the new stadium would effect the parking situation. How close to the old stadium is the new one?

Right next to it (less than 200ft). The parkign situation has been crazy since construction started. As I said above, they rent out offsite lots for people to park in, but those lots are in office parks. So they are filled during the week.

The giants have requested no home Monday night games since construction started.

Thanks for the update, I thought at one time it was supposed to be at the other end of the complex, but I guess plans changed. I can see that would really screw up the parking situation. Its been at least 6 years since I worked any meadowlands jobs so didn't realize the new stadium was that close.
