Hubbs
Anyone else catch this? I'm geeky for this sort of thing, and thought it was really interesting. :geek:
Springfield
I'll have to check that one out. If it sounds like what the title suggests, I'll probably find it very interesting.

Capt Rich Fla
Yeah I watched it. That is some wild stuff. Especially that one sight that had thode interlocking stones with cuts that could only be made with diamond cutting tools. Whaaaaat?

benskins26
That was a freaky special. Especially the Mayan references. They were already pretty freaky, sync that up with the calendar, and the idea that they might have "left", and it's pretty creepy.

I didn't think the diamond tools part was as crazy as the tiny, perfectly straight, perfectly even lines that were cut into all of them. Those made my head spin for the whole next commercial break. dfitzo53
I didn't see the episode, but for what it's worth, these shows often tell just enough of the story to amaze, but not enough to demystify.

The "Monsterquest" of Histories Mysteries. Just enough to give you a "cant prove it", but, what if. I love all those shows though.
skinsfan44
I also watch this show last night with the wife. We are both into these kinds of shows and watch them whenever we can. It was "Eye opening."

True. There were a few segments that really didn't present the accurate critiques. (The "why" questions about the temples, for example - human history is riddled with huge construction projects in the name of religion. Just look at the actual Notre Dame.) But most of the show legitimately presented evidence that, as far as my own research can tell, hasn't been refuted.
codeorama
I thought it was an awesome show. A lot of mainstream scientists just ignore that kind of stuff because it doesn't fit into their line of thinking.
Mad Mike
I hate these types of shows. They are so full of conjecture and BS that they lose site of reality. The idea that the "history channel" would pervert truth for ratings disgusts me. Let me solve your mysteries for you. Ancient man was not "stupid" man. Humans have always shown amazing genius throughout history. Sometimes in wild leaps of technology before their time. We have seen it over and over. The Romans invented and built a human powered cranes that would let four people lift two ton blocks with ease. Re have an entire history of brilliant humans like DaVinci and Galeleo who leaped out ahead of the pack with visionary ideas. What we dont have is a single bit of proof that any aliens ever visited earth nor have we seen any evidence that it is even possible to bridge the vast distances of space in any practical way. If there is anything amazing, it's that humans were able to do these amazing things, seemingly before their time. Give credit where credit is due. With humans. With us. Those made my head spin for the whole next commercial break. That's the part I was talking about. Those straight lines did look cut by a wheel of some kind. And the lines were the same depth through out. WTF?

Almost every single main stream scientists sees this BS for what it is. I kind of feel the same way about similar shows on National Geographic channel that float these wild speculative theories by guys James Tabor about Jesus being married to Mary Magdelen because they found some ossuary filled with the bones of people with the same names.Thankfully the one this weekend had Bart Ehrman and other scholars/archeologists on there debunking most of the crackpot stuff. Mad Mike
Why is it so ridiculous of a thought that this planet might have been visited by extraterrestrials in the past? Because there is zero evidence it happened and zero evidence interstellar travel is even possible in any meaningful way. And 90% of the "evidence" for these "ancient astronauts" is either misrepresented or fake. And the guy who started the whole idiotic theory? Busted faking evidence. http://skepdic.com/vondanik.html For example, he produced photographs of pottery that he claimed had been found in an archaeological dig. The pottery depicts flying saucers and was said to have been dated from Biblical times. However, investigators from Nova (the fine public-television science program) found the potter who had made the allegedly ancient pots. They confronted von Däniken with evidence of his fraud. His reply was that his deception was justified because some people would only believe if they saw proof http://www.debunker.com/texts/vondanik.html More evidence of the ancient Visitors: "The Mayas were intelligent; they had a highly developed culture. They left behind not only a fabulous calendar but also incredible calculations. They knew the Venusian year of 584 days. . . " (p.55)This statement is true-almost. He conveniently forgets to tell us that this 584 day period is not the true Venusian year, which is 225 days. Instead it is the apparent Venusian cycle as seen by an earth-based observer, which is precisely what we should expect the ancient Mayas to record by simply counting days, without any extraterrestrial insight. On the other hand, if they had recorded the true Venusian year of 225 days, which implies a knowledge of the Copernican (sun-centered) system of astronomy, that would have been a bit more remarkable. Fake. Lies. BS.

While I don't disagree that the "evidence" they cite is probably all BS, we cannot even begin to imagine what might be possible in terms of interstellar travel. Our technology is nowhere near that at this point. But the thought that we are completely alone in this universe, that there cannot be other civilizations (even ones far more advanced), is more silly to me than this theory. Yeah I wasn't sure. And there really isn't anything to go on in terms of physical evidence, but the theory is still interesting. It really does make you wonder. IONTOP
biodegradable construction equipment... That's all I'm sayin... Pyramids? Obviously built by some resource that would last 5 years and slowly disintegrate leaving no trace it was ever there... It was so useful that the Egyptians, Chinese, Myans etc, eventually hunted/scavenged every last bit of it and we have no trace of it... Or the fact that they didn't have TV/internet/newspaper to distract them, so they actually got **** done and cared about it...
