DeMarco Murray 29
Cowboys beat writer Todd Archer considers the Jets "likely" to tender Miles Austin a restricted free agent offer sheet during his Friday visit. Austin is in great position with a lot of new earning potential. We have a strong suspicion that Dallas will match any offer, however. Getting a second round pick would be nice, but the Cowboys truly are relying heavily on Austin. Source: Dallas Morning News
dreamshatterer
If the Jets do so, hit against your cap that would be higher than thought. OR get an extra 2nd round pick. What would Jerry do?
HeHateMe
Austin is worth a 2nd rounder? Cassell and Vrabel went to KC for that. Guess Austin is a little more valuable than anyone thought.
Big Blue Joe
Wow. I guess the Jets really are that stupid. Hopefully the Cowboys will match any offer.
Vicious
Dallas does not let him go. I just have this gut feeling about it. I don't know or care either way though.
Laxpunk2006
Austin is worth a 2nd rounder? Cassell and Vrabel went to KC for that. Guess Austin is a little more valuable than anyone thought. I think Vrabel being involved in that trade made compensation lower rather than higher. While he's still a decent player and should help the transition to the 3-4 he's an old man with a big cap hit. I'm surpirsed Austin is drawing this type of interest. If you told me even a week ago that Miles Austin would get a second round pick offer I would have laughed. The Jets must see the same thing Jerry does.
SirClintonPortis
I think Austin is better than Randle El, but is not worth a second round pick.
Laxpunk2006
Just thought I would throw this out there. Miles Austin's career stats: 37 games played, 0 started, 18 receptions, 354 yards, 19.7 average, 3 TD's. The longest reception of his career is 63 yards. He has also fumbled 4 times. 3 of those were as a rookie with zero in 2007 and 1 in 2008. Not a good sign to have more fumbles than touchdowns especially with so few touches but he seems to be mostly over that issue. All of his fumbles were on kick returns. As a returner his average has decreased with every year he's been in the league. 11 of his 13 catches last season went for a first down. 5 went for 20+ yards, 2 were for 40+. Solid stats for such limited touches, it will be interesting to see if he can keep it up in a more prominent role.
Mr. Jones
most of his fumbles came on kickoff returns, not receptions.
Area51
I don't know WTF the Jets' FO is smoking, but I hope Jerry's dumbass matches any offer Jets give him. The guy, at best, is a number 4 WR. He is very stiff in the hips and when he makes his cuts/breaks off his route/anything that requires him to do anything other than run STRAIGHT ahead (like Forrest Gump), he looks like he is doing it in slow motion. The only way this guy can have any success in this league is coming in on 3/4 receiver sets and going up against another team's slow #3/4 CB playing off coverage. Yea, the guy seems to be "really fast" when it comes to running straight ahead, but watching him make his cuts and/or flip his hips, it looks like he is doing it in slow motion...maybe he is doing it on purpouse to get a role in Bill Parcell's football training videos. :whoknows:
HeHateMe
I like the kid's potential a lot. But that 2nd rounder is very tempting. Combine that with the fact that the contract we may have to match will be probably more than he has proven he is worth at this point, and I think we have to let him walk. That would give Dallas back to back picks in the 2nd round. And accordingly nice potential to land quality players. Or in the alternative, more ammunition to trade up if they see fit. Tough call. But I'll take the pick. That said, JJ and Co. are really liking this kid so I see them matching any deal unless it is a poison pill type contract. ExoDus84
Who the hell decided that the kid is worth a 2nd round pick? He should be no more than a 3rd...at best.

It's the tendered contract he was given. Since he was a restricted FA, that is his compensation based on the contract offer by the Cowboys.
