But not at RT. They say that he may take the RG spot from Randy Thomas. Jansen can still obviously runblock, he just had trouble on the edge last year. If you watch the tape, if he got straight into the pads of the defender, he never let him out. So, a OT at #13 and Jansen into RG, our O line could be solid until Rinehart can start. Also, Skins are looking at DEs in later rounds (Jarron Gilbert)...he is the only player they have looked at individually outside of Sanchez, showing they are more interested in a DE later than the first. I really think all signs point to OT at #13. REALISTIC situation though, Trade down, get 2nd 1st-Britton/Beatty 2nd-Sidbury 3rd-Freeman/McKenzie 5th-Devin Moore/kory sheets/mike goodson/AQ Shipley 6th/7th-above scatback/G/C/MARKO MITCHELL

AAARedskin
The more I think about things, the more I think SNYDER (let's face it.....DAN SNYDER is the owner AND general mgr. for the Redskins) will pick the tackle from Alabama if he's still on the board at 13. Now, if ALL of the top tier O-Linemen are gone when the #13 pick comes up, we'll see the Skins trade down and acquire a SECOND ROUND PICK that they really need....if this happens, they will target O-lineman Eben Britton out of the University of Arizona with their first overall pick. HitStickTaylor21
Didn't they try Jansen out at center in training camp and it didn't work out? I imagine guard is an easier transition than center, but still. We tried this with Todd Wade and it didn't work, maybe that was cuz he was 6'8" though and couldn't get leverage. SteveFromYellowstone
Why would he take Thomas's spot? Thomas was still playing at a high level last season IIRC.
eljeasel
Why would he take Thomas's spot? Thomas was still playing at a high level last season IIRC. Yeah, Thomas really wasnt the problem along the interior of the line. It was Rabach. As far as moving Jansen to C, I think it could work. I dont think it worked last eyar because he only took a few reps at C. If he was able to prepare for the entire offseason including training camp? It might work. flexxskins
Replacing Thomas with Jansen makes no sense at all. Next to Samuels, Thomas was our most consistant best o-lineman.

jtyler42
Gilbert won't get picked...he is a Daniels type end. You need to re-do your research...Jarron Gilbert is a low first/second round pick...He had goo production in college, and the workout #'s to back it up...Plus he can play the 3-technique(4-3 DT), 5-technique(3-4 DE), or Base End (4-3 LE)... Also I don't like moving Jansen to RG...If he could not anchor against DE's and rush LB's do you think he can against the larger more aggressive DT's? He'd be their whipping boy... TheLongshot
Because facts are made and then evidence is found to support them. I haven't found much evidence that they are thinking about moving Jansen inside. Last I heard, he's still competing for his RT position. That, of course, can change depending on how the draft goes, but I expect that he will remain on the outside and Thomas on the inside, at least for next season. EddiePleaseSayTheBaby
2:21 [Comment From James] Can Jarron Gilbert play DE in a 4-3 defense? Or a UT? 2:21 Scott Wright: In a 4-3 Jarron Gilbert would be a DT. In a 3-4 he's a DE. Some teams even like him as an offensive tackle prospect! Hubbs
What? That's a terrible idea. If we're gonna experiment with Jansen replacing anyone, it should be Rabach. Jansen was taking some practice reps at center last year.
Chump Bailey
Why would he take Thomas's spot? Thomas was still playing at a high level last season IIRC. Thomas was awful - injuries and age are taking their toll. I hope he can rebound and have a decent season but this should be his last. I also think we need to find a new C ASAP. Thinking Skins
If Thomas loses his job to anybody I'd rather it be somebody like Rinehart or a young rookie. Whats the purpose of replacing a 33 year old lineman with a 31 year old one? Both are going to wear down at the end of the year and get nagging injuries that hurt their play. And I agree with whoever said that Thomas was one of our best linemen last year. I think Samuels was the best, then its a toss up between Kendall and Thomas. Rabach is a smart guy, but he seemed to have some trouble with the 3-4 DTs. And Jansen was horrible at pass protection. What I'd like to see this year is depth we can believe in - not some old guys who'll be good for a few games, but some young guys who are challenging for the starting jobs.
