scskin
Mike Mayock said he was going out on a limb and you can check the tape. He said in 3 years looking back at this draft Robert Ayers would be the best Defensive player from this draft. Said he watches enough tape and compared Ayers to Justin Tuck. He can play Strongside End and drop inside on passing downs. He felt he will be disruptive at D End. Threw me for a loop.

PortisSkins26
Dude is an animal I have him as the best d line prospect and if hes there at 13 it would not be a reach we can get risky and maybe trade down to 17 or so get a 3rd but itd be a gamble. I want him so badly

bubba9497
Mayock's had a jones for him since the combine. coming from a Vol fan. He was good at Tennessee, (on a very good defense) if we trade back,.... maybe
[[ghost]]
Projections like that are very hard to make. A draft pick will be succesful if he goes to a team built for him, and if he's surrounded by enough talent to maximize his potential. Who knew Jerod Meyo and Chris Horton would be so succesful? And that Vernon Gholston would be so pitiful?

Obviously they knew something.
IbleedBnG83
I really do like Ayers, but not at 13. I think we can get more value than that.
bobzmuda
I really do like Ayers, but not at 13. I think we can get more value than that. I dunnow. I think Ayers stock has shot up like a rocket as they watch the tape on him. National Football Post is also really high on him. I think he goes in the top half of the first round as he's the best 4-3 DE in the draft. And if the top 3 OTs are gone, I certainly wouldn't mind if the Skins grabbed Ayers at 13. If they're all gone though, I'd like to see a trade back to grab Britton for RT.
ST is my boy
I dont know. I have a good friend who is a hardcore Tennessee fan and he said he cant believe this guy is projected in the first round. And to be honest....I never heard of him making plays last year.......but who knows.
G.A.C.O.L.B.
I think Mayock is pretty money. And I believe he has Ayers in the top ten on his BPA list.
Rdskn4Lyf21
What do we do if we draft DE in the 1st? I thought our problem last year was scoring points and that was related to the OL....
SIXX99
What do we do if we draft DE in the 1st?I thought our problem last year was scoring points and that was related to the OL.... Exactly, we have put enough in the defensive line this offseason time to look at the problem area *cough* o-line *cough*.

mistertim
Mayock has had a man crush on Ayers for a while now. From what I've seen he is good, but I never really saw anything special about him. Not much production wise either. I think he would be a reach at 13, but if we traded down I wouldn't be upset if the got him, though I'd rather grab Britton instead if we do so. Skins3000
as long as we can look at the problem area *cough* qb *cough* Qb has to be up right to be a problem cough cough. I think the oline can be addressed but just because the Skins has picked up Haynesworth does not mean the dline is set. Definitely need even more youth on dline because of depth reasons. At least on the oline there is Rinehart, Dockery, and Heyer who all shown starting capabilities. I know some of you are going to say what about Montgomery and Goldston but I said starting capabilities.

True enough, but I'd be willing to bet that there were waaay more opportunities where JC just flat out sucked (missed wide open recievers, overthrew/underthrew, or just flat out held the ball too long, taking a sack) than times where poor o-line play sucked. thats my story and i'm stickin to it
jtyler42
Mayock may be right...Ayers seems to fit the 4-3 LDE mold and looking at him in uniform he looks and plays a lot like Justin Tuck...I really think we have to go Oline in this draft with 2 of our 5 picks...I'd like Andre Smith at #13 and maybe somebody like Tyrone McKenzie at SLB in the 3rd, and a RG in the 5th like Cornelius Lewis, or Louis Vasquez... I think a draft like this would yield us 2 starters this yr(Smith, and McKenzie), and another RG type player to push Randy Thomas, and provide competition for Rinehart. mistertim
A couple of other things that were a bit troublesome to me about Ayers as far as his combine and pro day numbers. He is 6'3, 272 lbs and only put up 18 reps in the bench press? That is seemingly pretty weak upper body strength for a guy his size. He also had a 29 inch vertical and only had a 8 foot 6 inch broad jump, which is relatively poor. I mention these because both the vertical and broad jump show lower body explosion and strength. Watching him, the guy is tenacious but doesn't have an elite first step like Maybin (and I doubt that the fact that he had a 40.5 inch vertical and a 10 foot 10 inch broad jump as well is a coincidence), explosion like Maybin and Brown, or a wide array of pass rush moves like Brown. HBnotBlades
I think he's a guy that plays much better than he measures. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PAR9Qb3liRs I would be very happy if the skins got him, he's exactly the kind of player we need at RDE in our defense. The DE's ranked above him are all on the small side and don't look like they'd fill our need at all. That said, I'd only take him if we can't fill our need at RT with the 13th pick and don't have any good trade back offers.
