Button set a time of 1 minute, 35.181 seconds in Saturday's qualifying to finish almost 0.1 seconds ahead of Toyota's Jarno Trulli. Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel was third but received a 10-place grid penalty from the last race. Rubens Barrichello was fourth but had a five-place penalty for changing a gearbox.
