Rumrunner6900
Yes...there was a shooting off campus....suspect still at large...all I can really say right now. Not to sound too cryptic, but I do know more than the news does about this incident and can't really say anything til it hits the public somehow....wasnt trying to sound like a douchebag if I did initially! Mondizzle
This sucks, but it's weird that the story doesn't even say whether the victim died or not. :whoknows:
Hardcore Zornography
What is in the water these days up in that area? Glad I made it out alive in August. Thoughts and prayers are with all my Highlanders who are still there. STAY INSIDE!!
steve09ru
From what I have heard...there were 2 shot in the first incident with 1 dead (again just what I heard) There was supposedly another shooting in front of Moffett (dorm) and I do not have updates on that one... It seems RU has gotten the information out fairly quickly which is good news and I fortunately had a ride back home and passed by both scenes and saw numerous cops, swat, etc., with dogs all over the place. This, to me, is a great thing to see so soon
Rumrunner6900
There was only one shooting....and cops are out all over. If you are in the area and out enjoying Thurs night boozing, tell everyone to get a ride, dont drive drunk and get your asses inside!

steve09ru
It is just that one...definitely a good night to be in though...dark side is a mess...hope you don't live over there! I do live over here...Last year I lived in that area...which is about 50 yards from the shooting. That place is GHETTO as hell in that spot and has a lot of, I guess you could say, "less fortunate housing" (can't think of the word for this right now...lil intoxicated) While living there last year, actually a small little apartment complex area with these apartments across the parking lot, I witnessed "druggies" with there kids -- LESS THAN 2-3 YEARS OLD...next door to me buying drugs and partying in the middle of the night... I'm really glad I got out of that area...that is probably the worst part of Radford, but everything else, outside of that area, really isn't bad at all
Rumrunner6900
Ok, most of it on the news now. There was only one shooting and the person who was shot was pronounced dead at the local hospital. There are police from all over the area looking for the guy who did it. Say what you will about Radford cops, but they really don't **** around when **** like this goes down. Hardcore Zornography
Glad to hear everything has been handled so well during this ordeal. Hopefully they catch the dude. I lived in the 500 apartments on Calhoun a few years ago, and its not a pretty site after dark. I wouldn't be surprised if it was a drug deal gone wrong. Rocky21
I know terms like this are subjective but it's hard for me to believe that an area within a short walk of the campus is "ghetto as hell" and someplace "you wouldn't walk after dark." A hillbilly shoot out can happen anywhere.

Rumrunner6900
They weren't hillbillies there that is for sure. And there is a lot of drug activity in that area unfortunately. Latest news on it...well....latest released to the public news. Link for all of it. http://www.wsls.com/sls/news/local/new_river_valley/article/radford_university_students_told_to_stay_inside_while_police_search_for_sho/32435/ WSLS NEWS STAFF NEWS@WSLS.COM Published: April 3, 2009 12:23 p.m. Radford University says it sent out its first university wide alert at 9:34 p.m., nine minutes after it received its first report about the shooting. The university says it sent out four additional alert updates through its emergency notification system during the following 5 and 1/2 hours. The university confirms that SWAT teams and police conducted building-by-building searches of the campus. “We applaud the response of the law enforcement agencies who responded to the situation, and to our students, faculty and staff who calmly complied with the Shelter in Place order,“ said RUPD Chief Colleen Roberts in a news release. “By working together, we were able to safely and swiftly secure the campus and bring this matter, from the university’s perspective, to a satisfactory conclusion,“ Roberts added. ———- 10:30 a.m. Radford Police say 33-year-old Floyd Wilfred-Linn Wright Jr. was the man killed in the shooting near Radford Unviersity Thursday night. Officers say Wright was from Christiansburg. Investigators believe Wright and at least one other man got into an argument outside a home in the 500 block of Calhoun Street, about two blocks east of the Radford Univ. campus. Investigators also do not believe the shooting was random. Officers tell us the suspected shooter was wearing dark pants, a camouflage jacket, and may have had a goatee. Police say the shooting susptect was last seen going west on Jefferson Street, shortly after the shooting around 9:00 p.m. Thursday night. Police say the victim has no known ties to Radford university. State Police, Christiansburg Police, Blacksburg Police, Virginia Tech Police, Pulaski County Sheriff’s deputies, Town of Pulaski Police, Wythe County Sheriff’ deputies, a K-9 unit from the Bland County Sheriff’s Office, and ATF agents are helping with the investigation. zoony
Wait, Radford has a ghetto now? WTF
Rumrunner6900
Not really a ghetto. Just a few bad areas that seem to switch over the years. When the cops crack down on drug activity in one area, it just gets moved to another. Kinda like a mobile ghetto if you will.
steve09ru
Not the ghetto most are use to but more so for the area around here...and when I say ghetto, I mean drug deals all the time, poor families with children out with them in the middle of the night, break-ins, fights, etc. That is the only spot around the whole Radford Univ. area that has this constantly...just saying
