The Titans have asked the NFLmag-glass_10x10.gif to look into tampering charges against the Washington Redskins in the signing of defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth, sources familiar with the situation said.

The Titans recently turned in what they considered to be evidence that the Redskins had contact with Haynesworth before he became a free agent in February. The league indicated to the Titans that it planned to look into the matter.

Haynesworth, who played his first seven NFL seasons with the Titans, agreed to terms on a $100 million contract with the Redskins five hours into the free agency period on Feb. 27.

Titans officials declined to comment Wednesday. Greg Aiello, senior vice president for the NFL, would neither confirm nor deny that the Titans had contacted the league.

"There are issues of tampering that come up from time to time and if we need to take some action then of course we announce that," Aiello said. "Until then we don't comment on it.''

NFL rules prohibit teams from contacting agents for players still under contract with another team, but such cases are hard to prove. Penalties against teams found guilty of tampering have included the forfeiture of draft picks, though there have been few cases in recent years.

The Titans did not file a formal grievance with the NFL. Instead, they turned in newspaper articles and audio from a Washington, D.C.-area radio station in which a Redskins official made what the Titans felt were incriminating comments.

The information was sent to Jeff Pash, the NFL's executive vice president and general counsel, a source said. Commissioner Roger Goodellmag-glass_10x10.gif is expected to be involved in the decision as to whether the matter demands a full-blown investigation.

There was rampant speculation that Haynesworth would end up in Washington well before he signed with the Redskins. One report before free agency indicated an agreement between the Redskins and Haynesworth was already in place.

In an interview last month, Haynesworth said he didn't think the Redskins were guilty of tampering. He said a meeting between his agent, Chad Speck, and Redskins owner Daniel Snyder at the NFL Combine a week prior to free agency centered on another Speck client, Redskins receiver Malcolm Kelly.

No way they can prove it, seeing as how haynes' agent is the same agent as current members of this team. The skins have always moved fast in FA when they want somebody.

Titans need to get over it. You could have resigned your player if you put out the money he wanted, but you chose not too. Move on.

This karma.

This is payback for the Titans (then Oilers) somehow signing Wilbur Marshall (our franchise player at the time) in 1993 and got out of paying us the two first round picks and instead we got a 4th or something laughable like that.

Yes, I have a long memory and hold grudges.:)

titans can prove it tho bro, i mean anyone could prove it if you knew where to look.
What is this though? They have some kind of Watergate style tapes to bust us?

They submitted clippings from D.C. newspapers and some podcasts from local radio radio shows? I don't think that's going to go over too much.

They could very well have more info than that, but the story doesn't seem too airtight if what's reported in this article is true.

a redskin official? It was Malcom Kelly

the radio podcast can be taken a couple different ways, he said "they" which the way he said it could have meant AH and his agent. He never referred to the Redskins or any FO person by name.

Besides it is second hand knowledge from a player not involved in any meeting or dealings with the Haynesworth signing

hardly rock solid evidence

ive heard the clip and honestly I dont think it means anything. he doesnt say when, he doesnt say with who just

"they have the same agent and they have been talking"

that could mean malcolm kelly has been talking to speck, and speck thought the skins would go after haynesworth as much as it could mean the skins and speck have been talking. furthermore if this interview was at 9AM on the start of free agency, even if it did mean speck/skins were talking, it could have been at 8AM, 3AM, 12:01AM...its a complete stretch to automatically assign "they have been talking" to prior to the start of free agency.

Just like throwing the red flag...without a shadow of a doubt. this clip doesnt prove anything, although it is interesting, it does not prove anything.

Was that intentional?

Please god, let them find us guilty and take away our first round pick so we can't trade it and ten other picks for Cutler!

 So u'd rather LOSE a first rounder and get NOTHING instead of either draft someone at that spot or use the 13th pick overall to get cutler. No thanks. Please don't take away the 13th overall for nothing, please!

And not lose all the other things that would go to denver in a trade, i.e. carlos or another first rounder. I also don't consider Cutler an upgrade... I think he MIGHT be an upgrade.

Ok the part that helps me understand ur argument better in this is that u dont consider Cutler and upgrade. This makes the most sense and I see where u are coming from...I am mixed on this cuz I do see him as a huge upgrade. I'm sorta numb to this whol thing. There is nothing I personally can do so I am going to sit back and see what develops. If it happens it happens if it doesnt it doesnt. It's not in my control and because of this I wont allow myself to get too worker up
