MVN: NFL Rumor Mill: Redskins Interest in Cutler is 100% Dan Snyder's Fault

For the Washington Redskins to be interested in Jay Cutler makes little sense from a football perspective. They have a franchise quarterback in Jason Campbell. They have yet to put a large investment into him, but certainly, that wouldn't be an issue before this time next year.

But that doesn't change that the Redskins have their eye on another prize, disgruntled Denver QB Jay Cutler.

And as a fan of the Redskins, I can honestly say that the worst part about the consistent denial from the team is that the denial is being made by individuals who are actually in control of the situation, or supposedly at least. Both V.P. of Player Personnel Vinny Cerrato and Head Coach Jim Zorn have denied that the Redskins QB next year would be anyone but Jason Campbell. Nothing else would make sense.

But the sources who are confirming the Redskins' interest in Cutler are sources close to owner Daniel Snyder, not to Cerrato or Zorn. Therefore, one can conclude that at the owner's meeting last week, Snyder had constant dialogue going with Broncos owner Pat Bowlen regarding Cutler's situation and asking price.

A potential trade between the Redskins and the Broncos would hinge on the Broncos accepting Jason Campbell in a deal. It wouldn't make sense any other way. The young-talent strapped Redskins don't have much to offer in a trade, except that their QB could enjoy most of the successes that Cutler enjoyed in Denver without all of Cutler's emotional problems. Given the assumed interest between Denver and Jason Campbell, this story gets even more dangerous for Redskins fans. For you see, if Denver doesn't want Campbell on it's roster, this simply becomes a bad April Fools Day joke. Cutler goes elsewhere.

Glad to see the fanbase having the attention span and patience of a ferret on a double espresso.

What happened to patience and giving Campbell more chances? I think he deserves another year in this offense before we throw him out like a diaper.

I've tried to defend the FO in recent years for having strived for continuity and cohesion, but if the latest rumors are true that Snyder and Co. are actively going after Cutler, I take everything back. If they make this move, I have absolutely no respect for this organization and will make every attempt to no longer support the team after 34 years of being a diehard fan. If this deal goes down, it will reaffirm there is no loyalty, patience, or real plan for success. Snyder, if you do this deal, you have lost a lifelong fan.

I won't abandon them because of Cutler (unlike T.O. or Michael Vick), but I definitely won't be buying a Cutler jersey (or any other Redskin merchandise for that matter). Fooled me once, shame on me. Fooled me hundreds of times.....you get the point.

This is not a move to win games, it's a move to make a big splash and to get butts back in the seats.

This is what it is about. Getting the butts in the seats as you put it. People are not buying the tickets, our nation is in a recession/depression. They are really worried. They have been calling and sending letters left and right to try and fill the stadium but it is not working. So what if we lose next year? They will just fire Jim Zorn and hire Mike S. Everyone will think, hurray, we will win!

No, we won't win. They won't care either. A man that makes a billion dollars loves money a lot more than he loves football. If you can't learn to accept that and see that, our team will continue to be as mediocre as the Dallas Cowboys.

I think that Campbell can be great, but he has to be given ample talent and what he had last year wasn't adequate for any QB. He was on his back for most of the year last year. I don't think that if Cutler was in that situation that he would fair much better. I think that it is best to see what we have this year with Campbell with one more year of experience under this offense and go from there. I don't want a diabetic nutcase who will put his life in danger by going out drinking when he has diabetes. And people say that Cutler makes better decisions or faster ones than Campbell? Not sure about that one.
