Ok. I've been seeing a lot of OL dissing the past few months. Is our line really that bad?? Yeah, we gave up alot of sacks but sometimes QB hold the ball and are sacked at their own fault. I myself do see JC as a QB w/o that clock at times and would literally be screamin at my man to either run or throw it already/away. The word before this past year was that our O-line was a strong aspect of our team. Then we played Baltimore,Blitzburg, and our regular helping or blitz-crazed Philly, D-Ware, and the New York Giants.

Now everybody says our line is ****ty.C'mon , Clinton did have another great year that would've looked even better statiscallly had he been healthy. I even recall a few times him getting hawked down.

Is our line really to blame for our meltdown??

Tom Brady is an excellent QB, but he's a product of a system where the O-Line is a dominant force. Matt Cassel is not so much of a good QB, but he put up great numbers. Brett Favre had great lines. Steve Young had great lines. A QB cannot function in a system where he only has 3 seconds to throw (Giants 2nd game and Rams game).

In a way it is, but it's more our front office's fault for not drafting younger guys to take over for our aging players. I don't think our line is bad, it just can't hold up for an entire season. We need more capable bodies who can eventually take over full-time.

Do you think Clinton Portis suddenly went from a first half of 1,000 yards at 5 YPC to a second half of 500 yards at about 3.3 YPC because he forgot how to run the ball?

Of course not, the line fell apart. Read between the lines of what all the players and coaches have said. Especially Santana Moss. The same Moss that said in 2007 Campbell had a long way to go. That same straight-shooting Moss.

http://blog.redskins.com/2009/03/09/santana-moss-says-nice-things-about-his-coach-and-quarterback/

From your perspective, how much better has Jason Campbell become over the last season?

Moss: "I think he's gotten a lot better. Like light years. The stuff that he went through last year will make him see things more clearly this year. Last year there were situations where he was sacked a lot, and you can't blame it on that kid. You can't blame it on anybody because defenses were bringing it and they knew where we were weak and they exposed it. He gave us a chance to win every time we went out there, and that's all you can hope for."

The OL was the biggest reason for the 2nd half collapse last year. Campbell, Portis, Zorn, and the defense also shared in the blame, but the OL was the biggest culprit.

Obviously they aren't the only culprit in the offensive woes last season, but as the season wore on they were definitely part of it(injuries, ran out of gas, old). Lack of another receiver other than Moss and Cooley, oline play, Campbell mistakes, not many turnovers/short fields. ineptitude in the redzone etc etc.

Idk. 3 seconds to throw is long time. The OL was banged up late, correct. But Portis said it was the scheme. So could it be the execution of the scheme?? Zorn looked lost out there IMO. Our **** was dull. But JC does hold the rock toooo long at times. Maybe our WR's couldn't get open. I know JT couldn't at least. And my man D.Thomas would run an 8 yard route when we needed 10 yards. But why was it 3rd and long anyways????

Hmmmmmmmmm

On paper, 3 seconds is a long time. But in a 7 step drop, like Campbell does a lot (I'm not a QB, so don't take this too seriously), you take about a second just getting into position. Receivers take a second to run their initial motions before juking into their routes. Campbell either needs to memorize where his receivers are and hope that they didn't meet any opposition in the first 5 yards out, or he needs to take a few more seconds to scan the field.

Im sure they could have been helped by alot of other parts of the team. But when teams get instant pressure without blitzing you have to look at the OL. Keep in mind, we lost the starting tackles and pass pro improved, significantly

should be ready to fire at the end of that 7. Or you better scat. And you have to expect your receiver to be at a certain spot sometimes when you let the ball go. sometimes it will get picked but with risk comes reward and our offense didn't take too many risks last yr. Don't we all think JC is a little too old to be treated like a rook? Didn't seem to me Zorn had much confidence in JC the way he was Dilfered.

I dont see why people are hesitant to place blame on the oldest line in the game who starts Jon Jansen and Casey Rabach.

Football is complex, they don't know what they are seeing even though they are looking right at it. All they know is that they're not scoring Touchdowns so the Quarterback must be to blame.

does it sound like i'm blaming JC?? I thought i was saying it ain't all the OL's fault.

http://www.nfl.com/stats/categorystats?archive=false&conference=null&statisticPositionCategory=QUARTERBACK&season=2008&seasonType=REG&experience=null&tabSeq=1&qualified=true&Submit=Go

Jc's rating 84.3

Ben's rating 80.1

JC's TD/INT ratio 13/6

Ben's TD/INT ratio 17/15

Campbell's percentage and yardage 62.3 3,245

Ben's percentage and yardage 59.9 3,301

Jason Campbell has so much more then Ben? Then why was Ben's Oline chugging through the playoffs when Jason Campbell's died halfway through the season? You're so off base it's crazy.

No it isnt, but you wont convince a lot of people here. Too many CP worshipers, suprised they dont hang HIS injuries on them too. Should the FO have addressed the OL age in the draft, probably, but just cause you draft players doesnt mean they will be any good or not get injured themselves. CP is getting bald tread and his wheels are fallin off, I seen plenty of CP getting to that 2nd level and shoulda been 1 cut and to the house w/ his speed, but he didnt, got tackled or tripped over the white lines. I AGREE that JC holds onto the ball too long, 3 seconds and throw or get scrambling. I couldnt count how many times on 3 step drops, JC would double clutch and get sacked cause the D is really close and you dont have a pocket, to give yourself room to maneuver or slide. Cooley should never be called to pass protect, cause he stinks, he misses his guy and seeing hes on the end, it looks like the OT fault cause the DE gets there, when in fact, he was picking up a stunt or blitz, and Cooley gets beat 1on1. Cooley needs to be out there in routes, should be "flexed" more and motioned to create mismatches ala Gonzalas/Gates.
