Om
Yeah, I get excited about preseason for a grand total of probably three weeks during the calendar year. First, there are the few seconds in March when the schedule first comes out and I get a whiff of football (hence the piece), that least week of training camp when I can't wait just to see the uniforms on the field again, and the first two weeks of preseason while the glow is still, well, glowing. About that time the glow wears off, preseason is once again exposed for what it really is (glorified practice), and I can't wait for the real games to begin. Thinking Skins
This is good. When the Pats took us apart in the 2006 preseason, it really was a harbinger of things to come. They exposed how easy it was to beat our defense. Plus, these three teams will all HIT you, so if we have some rookies and UFA's who want to prove they belong, here's their chance to man up and show something. Thats a good comment. I think we should focus on the passion of the players in these games. I think thats what got Alexander a spot on the team, and last year it helped out Fincher and Horton. Hopefully we can be a more excited team on gameday in the preseason.
Om
Super Bowl XXXVIII Pats vs Carolina...both teams went undefeated in the preseason. So it can have its advantages... :logo: Fair enough. Allow me to qualify: I don't want my team going 4-0 in preseaon unless I already know it's good enough to make a run at the Super Bowl
Thinking Skins
Seems like we have played the Steelers forever in the preseason. This will be a good measuring stick to find out where the team is. I used to love the scrimmages against the steelers.
addicted
Damn–that’s four tough-ass games. Hah...for the record I love reading your posts. I'm sure I told you that before but although your older I recognize myself in your writing all the time. Keep this up brother, it's always appreciated :point2sky Let’s see ... three monster defenses, one prime-time date with Tom “Allow Me To Demonstrate How I’m Still Damn Terrific” Brady. I smell 1-3. Your being generous I think. We could go 4-0 and start the season out 0-8 or go 0-4 and start the year 8-0. I love preseason, no way to know how its gonna go

Allow me to qualify:I don't want my team going 4-0 in preseaon unless I already know it's good enough to make a run at the Super Bowl What I'd like to see is JC leading good scoring drives on his first posessions of each games, being successful running a simple offense, and just building some momentum to go into the regular season. We were doing that until we got sideswiped in our last two preseason games last year. I'd also like to see Suisham and whoever's our punter put in real good performances. And a few TDs on special teams is always a great thing. Wasn't that how James Thrash made a name for himself? I think preseason is all about watching individual players trying to make the team. So after training camp, I'll have a list of names of bubble players I'll be watching and hopefully they come ready to play! But the record means nothing to me. nightbird
I love preseason, no way to know how its gonna go That's why I hate preseason. Random trivia but I'm pretty sure for all three of our Super Bowl champion teams, they had a 1-3 preseason in each of those years. The Dungy/Manning colts routinely put in 0-4. Show me a couple series of crisp execution by our starters, and throw in a couple standout performances by an undrafted rookie or two, and I'm fine no matter what the final score. I love preseason, no way to know how its gonna go Thats true. Last year during the final 3 preseason games we looked terrible for most part; particuarly the dress reheresal game vs carolina where we got blasted 47-3. We opened the season with a medicore effort at the meadowlands then went on a 5-1 run so go figure. WE SHALL SEE!:logo:

Thinking Skins
Yeah, but see ... now you're getting into the meat of it. I'm saving that for the week before preseason actually starts. :cool:One hundred thirty five and counting. Yeah, but we've already got some names to root for. Wilson vs Fincher vs Blades at SAM (or a rookie)? Wilson vs Jackson vs Wynn vs Daniels (or a rookie)? Rock vs Aldridge vs Dover as KR? ARE vs Aldridge vs Dover as PR? Can Aldridge or Dover play as a third down back and pick up big yards? How good a punter is Atterberry? What about Durk Johnson? Is either one a good holder? How will Heyer look against different type of DEs? Who will start (in the preseason) Jansen or Heyer or a rookie? One thing I don't expect is that we'll see many sacks, at least not amongst the starters on defense. I don't think the teams we're playing (outside of NE) are pass happy teams. So we're likely to get tested on our run defense, but thats about it. There will be some shots, but it won't be anything like an air attack. And even NE isn't the type of team I expect to throw it a whole lot. It might be some boring preseason games, the likes of 7-3 or 10-7. The main question (as is every prseason) will be how good are the reserves and how much are the coaches willing to just throw the ball with their reserves in there? sens11
I'm happy we only have 4 games this year as opposed to the 5 we had last year. I wonder how long before this preseason schedule gets dwindled down to 2 games and the regular season becomes 18. I bet we end up 2-2. The Ravens aren't going to be the same team they were last year. Lombardi's_kid_brother
Seems like we have played the Steelers forever in the preseason. This will be a good measuring stick to find out where the team is. I look forward to seeing if Charlie Batch still has it. I have a feeling the Steelers are going to keep Roethlisberger on ice all pre-season to try to avoid any unnecessary hits considering the pounding he takes during the season.
