Skinsfan1311
The question in the title is self-explanatory. The consensus seems to be a good torch lighter, but there are so many of them out there, I don't know where to start. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Please bear in mind that I'm a cheap **** and do not want to break the bank. Thanks!
RabidFan
Supposedly you are supposed to light cigars with matches to get the true taste and scent.
Touchdown Redskins
Supposedly you are supposed to light cigars with matches to get the true taste and scent. Yeah, I've heard the exact same thing. I've tried it with both, and I could personally never tell the difference, but then again, I'm no connoisseur.
Mark The Homer
Good thread. Just in time for cigar season... Found this (doesn't really answer your question though, but not a bad read): http://www.cigaraficionado.com/Cigar/CA_Archives/CA_Show_Article/0,2322,1119,00.html Found this too: http://www.allthingscigar.com/lighter_info I think I'll stick to wooden matches. LegionOfDoom
Good read Mark. Something else you can do is not pay for the torch and just request some cedar strips with your cigar. Light the strip and use it to smoke your cigar.
Skinsfan1311
Supposedly you are supposed to light cigars with matches to get the true taste and scent. The guy at Habanos, in Cozumel, told me the same thing. He gave me a pack of really long, low-sulphur matches, when I bought some cigars. I was also told that the cedar that they come wrapped in are to be used to light the cigar. i.e. tear the cedar into strips, light the strips, and light the cigar. I only smoke the occasional cigar and, one of the main reasons, is that when it's windy out, (like on the golf course), lighting one is a ***** with a match or a Bic lighter. Good thread. GoSkins561
What about Zippo or Calibre?
BigMike619
do not use a zippo. the fluid will just infect the entire cigar and cause it to taste worse then it should. a true cigar smoker likes to use cedar shavings or a wooden match. but even IF you use a wooden match you should let it burn a few seconds first to get the sulfur out of it and to the pure wood. lighters are not meant for cigars unless you dont have a match. Makes sense to me. The thing is, when I'm on a windy golf course, a match doesn't cut it, hence the reason for this thread. I honestly hadn't given it much thought, until we were golfing a few weeks ago and it was tough getting a cigar lit. I noticed someone on our foursome had one of those torch lighters, and he had no problems whatsoever.
JeffSchmeff
I bought my Dad one of these lighters. I can't remember how much I spent, but you can get some of these as low as $25 and they have a lifetime warranty. I bought mine at a cigar shop. http://www.elighters.com/colibri-lighters-quantum-series.html

Forehead
The answer of course, is to light it with the stub of the cigar you just finished smoking.

Wood match sticks at that, not the paper red tip matches. Im not sure, but i think I read that white tip matches are the preffered match.

Thiebear
On the golf course i'm more using the cigar as a relaxant / bug repellent. So any flame will do.
