JetSkins
used this sample letter as a guide and it definitely helped me to negotiate a lower rent when recently renewing my apartment lease. anyone else have similar success?
LaxBuddy21
I got my rent lowered by buying a house. Cheaper to buy than it was to rent and I never have to worry about it going up!

Unless of course your property taxes go up, and/or insurance premiums go up.
Stophovr6
I just told my property manager we wouldn't be renewing. I wonder if they'll try to get us to stay with a discount. It won't work unless they are really hurting.
PleaseBlitz
My current landlord im fairly certain is upside down on the place, im going to ask her to lower the rent because i know she cant afford to leave it unoccupied, even for a few months. Im also going to try and convince her to short sell it to me. There is a large advantage in negotiations having spent time in the real estate finance field, especially when my landlord is completely clueless on the subject. spjunkies
I think the rental office would ball that letter up and laugh in my face.

I want an apartment where utilities are covered. Right now I live in a crusty house with oil heat and bad insulation. It's nice because it has a huge back yard with room for our dog, and the basement is good for storing things. But I need to condense my life as I will be going back to school in the fall. I don't expect any discount offered would be enough.

I live in a new apartment in Arlington that i love, except i dont have a yard for my dog or any storage room.. I just bought new furniture, i dont really want to go anywhere for at least a few years, and i applied to grad school that is 2 blocks away. It's kind of sad because since we moved in our dog has gone blind. We can let her outback but she's getting old and should really just be taken on walks during the day. We've become lazy about walking her because of the backyard. We've lived in this house for two years and have had some times to remember, but it's time to move on. Good luck with your situation, I hope you can get it figured out.
