addicted
Anyone ever had to deal with an ingrown toenail? Well I just did. On Monday my big toe on my right foot started hurting and just got worse all week. Last night I was out until 3am partying and when I got home I could barely sleep it was hurting so bad. Today I got up and when I took a step it felt as if I was being stabbed so I went to the Dr's and she removed half of my toe nail and pulled out an 1/8th inch nail from the side of my toe that was poking me. Now I'm in a walking boot and high on hydrocodein missing work and my weekends screwed. In my life I've broken fingers, torn my rotorcuff in two places, broken my hand, and broke my leg and I swear none of them hurt as bad as this. I must be getting soft in my old age. I asked the Dr how this happened and she said I cut my toenail too close. I thought it was because I was dirty or something. Take it from me, you don't ever want to deal with something like this its horrible. The best news about this was the day it happened was the most exciting football day for months! Capt. Kaos
I know what you are saying.... I get them on both feet. It's hard to believe that something that small can hurt so much. It almost makes you feel silly when you see it. Atleast you got some meds to help you thru. I self treat so all I get is a couple aspirin.

Haven't had one personally but my HS teammate had a problem with them -- think he had 3 while we were in school. A lot of pain, most definitely. His situation made me a little paranoid so ever since then I have kept a real close eye on mine.
Forehead
No, however, I may have something more disgusting looking, since yours is gone. At one of our tailgates last year, a drunken TLC stomped on my foot and destroyed my big toenail. It turned purple as could be. I figured that it would eventually fall off, except that that didn't happen until last week, a full six months later. The problem? Only part of it was loose, the other part had fused to the new nail growing in, so I had to clip it as best I could, take away what was detached. The result is that I have a new toenail that's about half grown in, and then half of an old one on the right half of my toe. If you divide the nail into four squares, I have three of them with a big gap in the upper left. And I can't do squat about it until it grows long enough for my to clip the rest. zoony
I used to get them all the time. I took care of them with a knife and several cloths to soak up the blood. There's very few nerves down there- doesn't hurt really... at least any worse than an ingrown nail already does. There is no relief quite as sweet as finally ripping out that hunk of nail that has been a constant source of misery stuck into the side of your toe. Seriously it will send a tear of joy down your cheek. .....

Little minor surgeries on my own toe are the best way I've found to deal with them.

I'm a man. I can take it. Ah man that's the thing. I get one about every year. I always cut into my skin, dig the piece of nail out, clean up the blood and bandage it up. This one was the worst one I've ever had. I'm a man and woulda rather you punched me in the face then to deal with that pain one minute more today, hahaha

Why does a drunk TLC do anything? The last I saw of him (at the tailgates) I think he was chasing Eagles fans with MIA, only he was holding his pants up with one hand and carrying a beer in the other. Chasing might be a bad description, drunken jog would be more accurate. The man is a mystery, one I haven't solved.
D'KanSkinFan
This may help: After the surgery it is important to take care of your toe so that it can heal. Your doctor will give you specific instructions to follow. He or she may tell you to: Soak your toe in warm water for 15 minutes 2 to 3 times each day. Rub antibiotic ointment 2 times each day on the toe where the nail was removed. Wear a bandage on your toe. Wear loose-fitting shoes that don't press on the toe where the nail was removed. http://www.webmd.com/skin-problems-and-treatments/tc/ingrown-toenail-topic-overview Be careful since the removal and keep the toenail area clean - did your Dr. give you an antibiotic? Good luck addicted; hope your toe heals quickly

Jito007
As many here I become my own surgeon and get rid of the nail. I've worked and ran plenty of times with an ingrown. Its one of th e worst things you can get. However I tend to agree that a boot and drugs are a bit excessive

Capt Rich Fla
Ewwwwwwwww, my brother had one once and it was real bad. He's a butcher and one day he dropped a frozen turkey right on his toe. Ouch! His toe exploded in his shoe. They rushed him from work to the hospital. He fainted from the pain. He had surgury to remove it. Yuck. Special K
I think she just called u a sissy. Wait, my post was that transparent? ****. That said, I think sometimes ingrown toenails are really serious business. Of course, I never let them get that far- I rip 'em out ahead of time. Me being manly and all Yeah, I guess my opinion is colored by the fact that I helped with toenail removals and debridment while working in my dad's office and never once were we asked for an Rx of Vicodin...and had we been asked, I have no doubt we'd have laughed our asses off. Seriously, no wonder we've got skyrocketing painkiller drug problem (not saying this is you addicted...although your screenname is ironice) in this country, dr.'s are writing out ****ing narcotic prescriptions for ingrown toenails! And a walking boot? Well, those huge, cumbersome, and expensive devices were usually reserved for people with fractures, major surgeries, etc. I can't even imagine telling a patient "well, sorry about not having a boot for your metatarsal fracture today buddy...we gave the last one to the patient who just went through a traumatic toenail removal."
