The 12th Commandment
A fully auto bad ass weapon is to folks who like guns as a Porsche would be to an auto enthusiast. Nobody can claim they're necessary but damn they're fun. And ironically enough, both are very dangerous weapons in the wrong hands.

Personally I am glad that you need to jump through many hoops to get a full auto, and those aren't easy hoops A ban on "scary looking guns" as Barbara Boxer would define them is counterproductive and stupid, and an easy way for Dems to throw away votes
Rdskn4Lyf21
Chris Rock has it right "You don't need no gun control. You know what you need? We need some bullet control. Man, we need to control the bullets, that's right. I think all bullets should cost $5000. $5000 for a bullet. You know why? 'Cause if a bullet costs $5000, there'd be no more innocent bystanders. … Every time someone gets shot, people will be like, "Damn, he must have did something."" Maybe I'm succumbing to the noise on the right, but the idea that that leads to further harsh regs down the road has taken hold with me to some extent. I'm afraid it'll give credence to the scary looking factor.

stevenaa
Semi automatics are no more efficient killing machine then are pump rifles or lever action rifles. I can cyle 10 rounds through my 30/30 lever action in a matter of seconds. Might take longer to load, but it doesn't matter. I could easly kill one person with each shot. Of course, being a law abiding citizen who uses his weapons for personal enjoyment, I'd never do such a thing. But hey, why should my rights matter. This is nothing more than PR move to satisfy the anti gun crowd. It will have zero affect on gun violence and only foster a black market for assault rifles. Bang
I'm those too! (but Bang didnt mean that negatively, he's cool like that) Well, I try. I agree with TWA on the first page when he says it would be about as successful as the War on Drugs has been, but I can hope. I think we take the gun topic in this country to extremes. Any suggestion of any restriction is met with a solid wall of "they want to take all of our guns and leave us helpless in front of the criminals and tyrants!" Most of the time that isn't the case, but when there is absolutely no desire on the gun lobby to compromise at all, then we'll never get anywhere. The gun violence in this country is nuts, and the lack of cooperation to even sensibly discuss any change at all is nuts, too. the only solution the gun lobbies come up with is to arm everyone to the teeth, so we all walk around as mini versions of detenté. Considering how well the average ******* holds his liquor, I can't see that as a smart solution at all. Oh well. It's like playing the lottery. Is today the day I meet the gun toting nutcase who's mad at his teacher? No? Well, I'll play again tomorrow. And so do we all. The problems that cause this stuff are very complex, and I don't think the ease in which we can arm ourselves to the teeth helps matters much. ~Bang

If you, or the teacher were armed in the event of a wack job trying to get you (which they will regardless of their weapon of choice) you would benefit from being a gun carrier too. I have no problem with reasonable regulations for the sale of weapons. Waiting periods, registration etc..... We all agree that fully automaice weopans should not make it into the hands of the general public. There are already some reasonable restriction in place. But to label a type of weapon that differs from most hunting rifles only in appearance, as a more dangerous weapon, is foolishness. It shows the lack of thought by those trying to ban them, and calls into question their motives. This type of lunacy crosses the isle to both sides of the issue. Aslo, despite the widespread news coverage when a gun related tragedy occurs, gun violence has been on the decline for years.

The gun industry and their supporter, must like the tobacco industry, wants to sell their products. And like the "Pro choice" supporters, don't want ANY legislation restricting their activities (Ala no compromise on partial birth abortions at 9 months ). what's the big deal about gun registration? I already gave up my finger prints and my mug shot photos for a concealed permit, as many of the people complaining about this have. There needs to be accountability on used gun private sales and securely storing of personally owned guns, to have an affect on senseless killings. The gun industry and their supporters argue that these measures will have no affect, but they never come up with measures to police their own industry, why? I used to think much this way myself, but over time I have started paying more attention to the slippery slope theory. There IS a group on the far left who are anti gun nuts, and because many of the other sections of the Democratic party don't much care one way or another there is a move towards banning any private ownership of guns. I have already given uo way too many rights as it. I have no right to privecy, my personal effects and papers can be taken for any pretense, warrents are no longer needed to ransack my home.... enough is enough
