Add Crowell to that, and you have a pretty decent offseason.

I'm not sure with the other signings we could afford to fit Crowell in there, but it's possible. Under my scenario with Fletcher, McIntosh, Maualuga and Blades - I'm not sure if Crowell is necessary. He's got great size but I don't see where he'd fit in. If Maualuga isn't our man (:cuss:) in the draft, then Crowell might be a must have and trading down a few spots or trying to pick up two second rounders might be our best scenario because I don't think Maybin is worth 13th, and I don't see Orakpo or Raji being there. I don't want Andre Smith or Oher, I'd rather trade down a bit and get Maybin or into two second rounders and try and get any combination of Duke Robinson, Herman Johnson, A.Q. Shipley (you get the idea). It all depends on the FO though...:logo:

I said Crowell because there is no guarantee that the best player at #13 will be a linebacker and we need to cover our ass. Fact is, no matter what, we need to sign veteran depth at LB. I also don't know if Crowell will get a lot from the fact that he is coming off of injury.

Good call - Agreed, and I wasn't quite thinking about the cheapness off injury factor. I'm just assuming, or maybe hoping, Maualuga's there. I think it's relatively safe to say he's there due to the fact most thought he'd be there anyway and with the injury it becomes more likely, but it's better safe than sorry. I think you're right about Crowell coming cheap, but if for whatever reason he's not available or too expensive to bring in, here's a guy who has good size and could be at least a decent depth pick up:

Yes, he's a former cowboy and played outside backer in the 3-4 but he's got good size and put up decent numbers as a backup. He'd be decent competition for Blades if we, for some reason, can't pick up any of these other guys or draft someone.

Why is everyone so dead set on getting Maualuga? Please don't get me wrong, I think this guy is great and will become a great player in the NFL...but how many ILBs does this team need? The Skins run a 4-3, right?

The Skins have London Fletcher and MLB and HB Blades as his backup (who may try to fill the SLB spot that recently departed Washington vacated). Unless the plan is to move Rey to the SLB spot?

I dunno...I understand getting the best player available is often the wisest plan but there are so many other holes that need more imediate attention and there are other equally talented players who may be better fits for those positions of need.

P.S. Just say "No" to Fat Albert!

Here's what I think they need to do.

1. Cut Shawn Springs.

2. Re-sign DeAngelo Hall.

3. Sign Derrick Dockery back. Should've never let him go to Buffalo.

4. If we're going to do it, even though I'm not that big a fan of it, sign Albert Haynesworth.

5. Sign Angelo Crowell to replace Marcus Washington OR Chris Canty to play play DE or inside with Haynesworth.

Line wouldn't look bad:

Carter-Canty-Haynesworth-Taylor. Look out New York! =P

6. Draft Rey Maualuga OR Michael Oher OR trade down and pick up additional picks and get an OT down in the 2nd/3rd.

That's a ton to do, and I know it's a snowball's chance in hell of happening, but nothing is impossible.

Let me nitpick if I may...we were absolutely right to let Dock walk for that huge contract and the fact that he's available just a couple years later for, presumably, pennies on the dollar, we are vindicated in that decision!

As for the rest, I really like this approach and it would make our DL very good for the next couple years...I would even be OK with cutting Taylor (adding Canty at end) and rotating Griffin and Monty so that our line would be:

Carter-Griffin/Monty-Haynesworth-Canty

I dunno...I understand getting the best player available is often the wisest plan but there are so many other holes that need more imediate attention and there are other equally talented players who may be better fits for those positions of need.

There are a couple of reasons. While H.B. Blades is a solid football player and someone everyone wants to see succeed due to his hard work, bloodline, and his size comparison to Fletcher, I think most around here would agree he is not starter material - he's capable, but his abilities translate much more to role player then a dominant leader that we want to continue on once Fletcher retires. His natural position is MLB and he may not be the answer there, let alone SLB.

The plan would be to play Maualuga at SLB until Fletcher hangs it up or in case he gets injured (knock on wood). Also contributing to this pick would be the popular ideas of bringing in someone like Dockery in FA and some younger players stepping up to temporarily address age issues on the O-line. Perhaps the most popular reason is because while Oher has his fair share of supporters here, and to a lesser extent so does Andre Smith, it may also be fair to say they carry a decent "risk" factor with them of not being as good as advertised or even some bust potential, and I think it's all too obvious Monroe and Jason Smith are gone in the top 5.

All this adds up to Maualuga not only being a safe pick but perhaps the best fit here at the 13 spot, unless we figure out some kind of trade down scenario. :2cents:

Because Maualuga is, literally, an impact player. And yes, we are talking about him playing Mike, which he probably could do.

I agree mostly with what TD washington redskins says, although I'm hoping to hell we don't sign Haynesworth simply for financial reasons, but whatever happens happens. In terms of Springs though, probably expect to see him back if Hall refuses to sign here and gets more money elsewhere. I would say it's likely he's cut within hours of us re-signing Hall (if that happens and pray that it does).
