TGI Jef
I don't see him discussed a lot in the music threads here. Just wanted to know if there are any other fans? He is probably my favorite artist of all time. I've seen him 3 times, and wish I would have gotten on board earlier. Discovering Neil's music record by record is about as interesting (and satisfying) as it gets. He has covered more ground - and covered more ground well - than possibly any artist other than Bob Dylan. I am a Springsteen nerd. I love Bowie, even the head-scratching stuff. I just do not think that my ears have heard any artist as affecting as Neil Young. I would struggle to make a top TEN list of his records, much less a Top 5 or Top 3. I think that his past couple of albums have been pretty solid. "Prairie Wind" was pretty good, and "Chrome Dreams II" was underrated. Didn't really blow my mind, but there was some damn good songwriting on that album, and his recent tours have SMOKED. Was blown away in Philly this past December (didn't hurt that Wilco and Everest were opening). Any other big fans here? Listen to "On The Beach" and "Tonight's The Night." "On The Beach" is my favorite album by anyone, and "Tonight's The Night" might be the darkest record in history and maybe the best. deejaydana
"Long May You Run" is a (kind of) overlooked gem by Neil (at least in my mind). The dude just keeps going too. I've seen him a few times through the years and he's always great in concert. Sometimes he plays stripped down sets and sometimes w/a huge backing band.
