Speed isn't important for those guys. Their explosion and their stride are much more important. If they have a hitch when they run, it's a major potential for injury. How fast they get off the line is huge too. Look at their first ten yards. For linemen, that's a good starting point. I'd say first yard or two, but I'm not sure the NFL has that data. :)

I'd say it's both a starting and an ending point, mi amigo. Whether it's OTA's, TC, practice or games, having to run more than ten yards is like pulling teeth without anesthesia for these galoots.

I was referring to starting point... But backwards. Hmm. I'm not a wordsmith. That's for sure.

I only said ten yards because I wasn't sure timed data for yards before that existed. The first yard or two is crucial and the best finishing point. But I thought ten yards was all the NFl had data for, thus the term starting point.

And now I'm rambling and making no sense. Bleh.

OLS. No, I got that, brother. Just messin' with ya.

-and yes, you are...:D

not that I've ever, ahem, done that myself a time or two-thousand.

If we want to talk about a workout warrior check out Lydon Murtha. Not sure how good he is but he posted a 4.85 40 at over 300 pounds.

Jamon Meredith out of South Carolina also posted a sub 5 40. Impressive about him is his arm length and bench presses. 31 reps and 34 1/2 inch arms.

And then you have Loadholt. Maybe not the greatest 40 time (not really that important to o line), but he has MASSIVE arms. 36 1/2 inch arms. I wouldn't mind trading back and landing him. He probably won't be able to cut it as a LT but he should be a great RT.

I like what they are saying about Max Unger being one of the quickest centers and how he can play pretty much any position on the OL. We could draft him hoping he could compete at Center but use him anywhere we need him on the OL in injuries occur.

That would be really nice to have. However, we don't have a second rounder so the chances of getting him are slim.

He's a Sooner! You know he's going to be really good!...lol. I'd really like to pick him up. He was really good last season at LT, but in the National Championship, he had a bit of trouble with Florida's ends. I'd move him to RT for sure. :2cents:

1st pick in the draft. I guarantee it!

I can't believe the guy from alabama is no show. The press is ripping him apart.

Shipley looked good.

Andre Smith is just going to keep on falling, possibly another Mario Manningham?

I would scream at the top of my lungs in Monroe fell to us and we selected him. That would be amazing.

Here's the analysis on Murtha

Positives: Prototypical height for right tackle spot. Short steps and quick set-up in pass protection. Uses his length and kick-slide to stone outside pass rush moves. Comes out of his stance adequately, and can get movement in short-yardage situations. Sustains blocks inside through the whistle. Latches onto defenders at second level. Can get the inside shoulder of tackles to keep them from run plays going away from him. Sells the bootleg.

Negatives: Stiff in the upper body. Lacks the foot speed to recover on inside moves. Inconsistent speed to get to the second level; lumbers on some plays and looks fluid on others. Overextends when pass rushers free themselves after the initial blow. Slow and ineffective on cut blocks, whether on the line or trying to reach a blitzer on the outside. Needs better second effort if quarterback scrambles away from him. Injury history is a major issue.

I've seen several draft boards showing him that low, but Detroit has leaked out that they want to do serious work on the Oline. Plus all the guys talking are all over Monroe, just like I thought they would. He's from UVA. You know his brains are in the right spot. Him in a Lions jersey.
