RWJ
Restructure Taylor and get rid of Springs. I don't think we got a good feel for Taylor last year with the injuries and all. Taylor is probably only going to play for one more year. He's what, 35. We need younger players on this team, I think.
MrJL
They need to cut Springs if they want to sign Hall because of the money needed to get it done. I think the only reason we are still holding onto him right now is because Blanche is enormored with him. Springs has been injured the last couple of years and has never been willing to restructure his contract for us. I don't think we will have the money to sign both Hall and Haynesworth. I really hope we cut Taylor as his savings would allow us to sign a guy like Jovan Haye from the Bucs and Stacy Andrews from the Bengals. you know I really don't think Hall's going to get a massive contract. It'll be good size, but he got paid last year and didn't produce for the Raiders, so that'll at least knock out a few suitors because people can say "He can't play in out system." Also it sounds like this is a pretty good year for DBs. A glt lessens everyone's value.
ronhobie
I agree with RWJ. It's time for Taylor to move on. His talents have eroded and he is over paid.
STaylor4ever
how much does Jansen make? couldn't we cut him, springs and Griffen and get some room under the cap to resign Hall, Heyer can start at RT and try to get Haynesworth
MumboSauce
I'd also get rid of Springs and Taylor, re-sign Hall, and draft a DE, keep Griff one more season. Pick up whatever solid FA's that can help you, not top 5 players at their position but guys that can hold it down and fill in well at LB, etc.

Jansen took over the RT position from Heyer when Heyer got hurt. Jansen won't give us any cap relief, plus he would be good to come in at the RT position if the starter were hurt. VC may want to keep him at RT.

He's a very good pass blocker at OT but doesn't really help in the running game. But Jansen would probably b better at OG since he's a good run blocker but gets continuously beat at OT. moving him in would help him a lot at Pass Blocking. I wasn't sure about his cap number i jus remember a few years ago he signed a pretty big contract.
RWJ
It would sure be nice to hear an update of how contract talks are going with Hall and the Skins. They were supposed to have met on Friday at the Combine to discuss this issue. Has anyone seen any articles on the latest?

jsteelz
they have had some face to face , they are still far apart but they will keep talking and hoping to get it done before he hits the market.
STaylor4ever
We need to get this done. He is the only DB last year that could catch the football. Every1 says we don't get enough turnovers but this guy is the one guy that will get the ball in his hands. we better not let him go or that would just b anouther great move by the best front office in the league:doh:
sjinhan
I think we should keep Springs, Taylor, and Griff until we actually need the cap space... but i might be in the minority here but i would want to keep Taylor out of the 3 the most... I think you can find much cheaper options for Springs and Griff out there in FA

HailGreen28
The Redskins are now $150 million below the salary cap, so we're free to go after EVERY SINGLE PLAYER that someone on ES starts a thread about. Oh ****! Nobody tell Danny and Vinny, OK?(hope the censor filters work.) (edit: )

Thank you +1 Hopefully he will restructure, otherwise I'm not sure we can afford to keep him but if he's unwilling to restructure I won't be upset if we cut him. But I think he's healthy and hungry to end his career on a high note. I see him getting close to ten sacks this season. He played much better the last few games when he still wasn't 100% but was getting healthier.

I wasn't sure about his cap number i jus remember a few years ago he signed a pretty big contract. Jansen has a $3M base salary this year but would cost us aout $6M to release. So he would cost us more to release than to keep AND we would have to sign a player to replace him on the roster even as a backup hence cuttin him makes no sense. In 2010 he has a $6M salary and costs us $3M to cut so we save $3M by cutting him. Unless he makes the biggest comeback since Lazerus this is his last year as a Redskin. He could restructure I guess and take a huge pay cut but I cant see either side being interested in that. Est.1974
This number is in no way official' date=' but by using the numbers from this site [url']http://www.thewarpath.net/WarpathRedskinsCap.htm[/url] my calculation is we are about $9.225M under the cap. LMB, just curious, what are you starting with over & above the £123m. I assume its more including potential cap credits ? I can see Samuels converting his 5m salary now, saving ~4m as well. Throw in a couple more restructures, possibly Moss / Landry, & we get to 15m in cap space with Griff, Springs & Taylor still on the books. We may not get the cull that many expected. jsteelz
RWJ it will come out in the news at some point bro , i can tell u that hall wants 15 mill guart money.. like i said i got the skins at 3.3 under the cap but i didnt add daniels 2.3 yet because that does not come off until the start of FA but i am not a salary cap expert lol

Spread it / his contract over 5 or 6 years & the cap hit in 2009 would be ~4m max. I think we'll get that sorted out. jsteelz, you may not be far off on your cap numbers. ~6m under without factoring in that our cap may be higher than 123m for 2009 is about right, IMO
