Beating myself up day.. updated

Burgold

Recommended Posts

I lost my wallet or it was stolen or both yesterday. I've looked everywhere. I've mentally backtracked and I know where was the last place I took it out and the first place I noticed it was missing. There are a few places left to look, but I am doubtful. This sucks!

I feel like such an idiot. I've already canceled the credit card and if it is truly gone it's going to be a bloody pain replacing everything.

If you see it please tell me.

One time when I was getting out of the shower and looking for my deodorant which was on my night stand I knew to look there and I proceeded to look around my room and repeatedly check the night stand cause I was sure it was there. After like 10 minutes of searching... I found it on the nightstand. Was really freakin strange.

Looked. I'm at the stage where I'm starting to look in the same place four times. You'd think the frigger would have the courtesy to show up.

"St. Anthony, St. Anthony please come around, something is lost that needs to be found." I come from a Catholic family and when we would lose something this would be our prayer or mantra until we found it. Prayer to St. Anthony. Probably worthless, but if it helps.....

I'm sorry Burgold...but I swear to GOD I feel worse than you right now. I lost my engagement ring. Totally lost. We've torn up the house, no go. I've been literally sick to my stomach about it the past few days.

I was going to order the exact same one and not tell Matt that I lost it, but then I felt too guilty for hiding that from Matt. So I told him, expected him to reem me out on the phone for which he should have (I would have). and I told him to just get it off my chest...the fact that I lost something special he'd given me, even if it were a cracker-jack ring or something, and I felt ****ing awful. I'm still trying to figure out why he was totally fine when I told him and wasn't mad. Said he'd take care of it and not to worry....I think he could see how upset I was. I guess I'm marrying a saint, but this is still going to haunt me for a long time....I'm getting myring suaghtered on the finger now.

Burgold, The best advice I can give is to go to a quiet, peaceful place in your house and simply sit and clear all thoughts from your head, including those that consist of worry over your lost items.

I do this everytime I lose something and after a little while, the location just comes to me.

I know it sounds wacky, but try it! (It may take a few hours or longer, btw)

That sucks, Burgold. What kind of important things did you lose beyond credit cards and a driver's license?

My wallet is very thin,, if i lost it, a call to cancel a couple credit cards and I'm set.

I hope you find it, I know the feeling.. it gnaws at you.

It's always a competition with you, Keeastman.

That sucks. I truly hope you find it. Did you shine a flashlight down the sink drain? Maybe it slipped off while you were washing dishes or something.

No kidding Burgy, you start the threads, I one up u in a post. lol. j/k I'm sorry you lost your wallet. I did that 2 christmas's ago and wanted to shoot myself having to cancel all the credit cards, etc. It's a pain in the ass, I really hope you find yours. :)

My ring, it's gone. I left it by the sink in a bathroom in a hotel in west Hollywood. I'd washed my hands and taken off the ring like I always do when I was my hands. Normally, I put it right back on afterward, but I was rushed and everything was confusing and I just ran the hell out of there, whitout my ring. Realized it at the end of the night, looked, talked to security, no one had turned it in. I'm not surprised, I'm sure it was pawned off to someone to get a nice little supply of drugs down there. Anyway, I'm just really, really, really pissed at myself for being carless. I am always losing rings, watches, sunglasses, hats, anything, but this is the one thing that really, really hurts me. I don't deserve for Matt to be so nice to me, so even the fact that he is makes me feel worse...STOOOOPID KATIE

Nothing irreplacable, stupid stuff like gym cards, AAA, and the like. Everything can be changed or recovered with a phone call. On the bright side, my driver's licence was set to expire in May anyway.

I still have one two places left, but my hope is pretty dim.

For what it's worth, I keep a phot copy of al my credit cards at work so I can call and cancel with numbers if I ever lose them. Thus far it's worked like having an umbrella. I'm desperately searchng for wood as I say this becaus I haven't done that with my wife's stuff yet.

On the inability to see what you're looking for even though it's right in front of you, my story is with my first MS flare. I was wrapping 3 preasents, and I knew my mind was a little off that night. So I thought I was organized. I got the paper, the sizzors and the tape. I put the first one down on the paper, cut the paper, wrapped the paper, and taped it. No problem! I put the second one down, cut the paper, wrap the paper, and...where the heck is that tape. I haven't moved so it has to be within arms reach of me. I curse. I rant. I stand up. I curse. I rant. Yeah so the whole thing goes on for about 5 min until I've repeated every curse I know 3 or 4 times and start to get bored. It's at that point I tell myself "It's freaking Christmas. I have more tape. Just go get another role." So I do, and I finish wrapping the second one. I put the third one down, cut the paper, wrap the paper, and...where the heck is that tape? I repeat the curses and the stomps and the frustration, but it only last for a min this time because I'm laready bored with my limited curse vocabulary and I'd noticed I still had more tape when I got the last one. At the end of it all, it took me 30 min and 3 rolls of tape to wrap 3 preasents. In cleaning up, I still didn't find any of the three rolls of tape. The rolls of tape were all found teh next morning neatly stacked one top of the other under the coffee table next to where I wrapping. When I'm tired or stressed, I just can't process what my eyes see. It's kind of like the visual equivalent of the diference between hearing and listening.

If it's not in your last few places, take a few min and just relax doing something else. Put a time limit on it, like till lunch. If it still hasn't shown up by then, start dealing with the wallet being gone. That's my semi worthless advice. Good luck.

I'd tell my wife the same thing. It's just an object. The connection between us is what's important, not some piece of jewelry.

The best way to find something down a drain is to get underneath and take off that bendy pipe thing. I forget what it's called. Anyway, it's hard to see anything even with a flashlight and if you take the pipe out you can be sure one way or another.

If you live anywhere near there, checking the pawn shops might be a good idea. Pretty likely they would still have it.

i "lost" my wallet in october. literally the day before i was supposed to fly to a wedding and a week before i was traveling oversees for a month. i tore my house, office, and cars apart looking for that ****. ended up canceling everything, getting a new license quickly (relatively speaking)... the basic drill. obviously, i had a passport, so flying wasn't really going to be a problem, but not having CC's or ATM cards during travel sucked.

turns out, my daughter thought it would be funny to hide it under the beanbag chair in her room. found it after my trip. figures.

and gbear, i totally thought you were somehow wrapping up the tape rolls with the present.

When my son was 1 he thought it would be a great idea to throw my keys into the trash can next to the computer that we used to keep there to put paper garbage in. Made me an hour and a half late for work. That's why we don't keep the can there anymore. At least now he is getting old enough to ask where he put something.

I don't use credit cards so maybe I'm missing something, but why do people carry mulitple cards with them in a wallet or purse?

I have friends that carry every card they have everywhere they go. Who really needs a Sears card or a gym membership card with them when we're on the lake fishing?
