moondog
This cat will be 32 by the time the season starts. While he's been durable (didn't miss a game in Denver and I think he played through an arm injury that required him to play with a cast his last year in Detroit) he's not as good as Carlos Rogers. Even if he was, you're getting rid of a 27-28 year old player for a 31-32 year old player for no real gain in overall ability. So, you're getting rid of a younger player that is AT LEAST of equal ability who already knows the system for a guy you're not sure will fit your system. The ONLY positive is Bly having better hands. Younger/Better Rogers > Bly + Second (maybe) round pick. I know Springs factors in as well, but I think I'd cut him due to salary and his health because I will admit he's a great talent when healthy but he never is. I'd say cut him, resign Hall, and with Springs' release, Rogers is back to starting = a happy Rogers, and try to add some cheap quality depth via Free Agency. moondog
I'd personally rather pick up Leigh Bodden for CHEAP and release Springs.1. D. Hall 2. C. Rogers 3. L. Bodden 4. J. Tryon This actually looks pretty good to me, although I'm not sure Bodden would be willing to come in very cheap, and I'm not sure if he's a nickel corner. Even until last year I thought being a corner was being a corner until a read a decent article about how playing nickel is kind of it's own type of position and Springs apparently was the only guy on the team who could play it. I agree with cutting Springs, I think you keep Smoot for one more year at #4 and bring in someone who has proven to be effective as a nickel, not a former starter that we just assume can play nickel because they've been effective on the outside...it's a completely different position that we'd need to replace without Springs. Yeen80
Bodden is still young and has potential that has not been tapped yet. We already know what Bly is capable of and honestly, I believe his best days are behind him. Sure a few years ago Bly was still at the peak of his game, but he has been declining steadily. I would love to have Bodden as insurance for Rogers and Hall. Springs can take a hike as his career is just about done
corrupt3d
LOL, man I remember all the threads 2 years ago, trading the 6th overall pick for Bly and Denver's first rounder.
SkinSince87
no to Bly and yes to Bodden put im a sucker for bigger CB's and Bly is big

HoyaSkins28
I knew this thread will come up. The Broncos have been weak on defense. If they let him go, things must be bad. I would only sign him for very cheap. That's what people said about D. Hall and that turned out pretty well. However I'm just playing Devil's Advocate, I actually agree I don't think Bly deserves the contract he will want and personally I don't think he has the coverage skills anymore. Smoot Point Really
now people want BlyIs he better than Rogers? some will say he is  Bly is getting a bit old... But 10 years and 40 interceptions? Damn, it's gonna take Carlos almost 23 more seasons to hit that mark. I wonder if he'll want vet min+incentives at age 50? Smoot Point Really
Dre Bly IS over rated in my opnion. He is just a name. We really need actual young talent that can be developed and molded. I'll agree with this... I have nothing against Bly, but I'd rather sign Hall and Carlos... Keep Smoot and keep working out young depth behind them. We need to build on what we have, not remake the secondary.
IbleedBnG83
I'd personally rather pick up Leigh Bodden for CHEAP and release Springs.1. D. Hall 2. C. Rogers 3. L. Bodden 4. J. Tryon Exactly. Bodden is the youngest and most promising IMO. Jerry Gray has been excellent and could certainly get Bodden back on track.

HighOnHendrix
Any CB signed in FA seems destined for depth, IMO. Regardless of trade rumors or anything else, I think we have our two starters on the roster already. Just need to get D. Hall under contract. Simple, nice, and easy. jthor99
I'm not a fan of Bly. If were going to drop cash on a guy like this why not just work things out with Rogers? It's amazes me peope want to bring other people in when we have a solid CB already. Signing Dre Bly and losing Rogers for instance would be a downgrade at the postion. Ernie5
Please no mention of trading rogers in this thread. I seriously see zero logic in trading him. Rogers+Hall = solid starting CB group. The issue is depth. Smoot is not worth the money we signed him for and Springs needs to take a paycut to stay. He is not reliable. And Tryon...well...uh... The logic of trading Rogers: he makes it difficult to sign him after next season and we lose him for nothing. Pretty basic. He was (unjustifiably) pissy about being benched for late-season poor performance and will want top CB money. I like him a lot, but I'd rather do without him for 2009 if he's going to be difficult to re-sign and then get a 2nd rounder for him.

LeftCoast Skinz FAN
I like Dre Bly back when he was in college playing for UNC. I used to see him play a lot, since I grew up in NC. He would be a really good replacement for Springs. Our CB depth would be sick if we got him, I don't think we will though. But to have Rogers, Hall, Smoot and Bly would be something that opposing WRs would have to fear seeing!!!

skinzwiz
Dre Bly and Leigh Bodden should always remain a possibility because I think they are just as good as Hall. If they can be signed for less, that's all the better.

bushwack
Dre Bly and Leigh Bodden should always remain a possibility because I think they are just as good as Hall. If they can be signed for less, that's all the better. IF the FO is going to trade Rogers this offseason, then either Bodden or Bly has to be signed to give the team some depth. The last thing the defense can have is letting Tryon be the #4 corner, and letting him see the field.
