HH - O-Line Updates...

Joe Bugel was on Redskins Nation recently giving updates on the O-line. In short, everyone will be 100%, and they haven't addressed free agency needs yet (since they're still going through tapes). Being part of the Gibbs regime and policy, Buges always speaks highly of everyone. If I was on the Skins line (I'm 6'2" 160 pounds), I'm sure Joe would say "I'm progressing and show a lot of heart." Riiight.

Buges mentioned Chris Samuels had his knee cleaned up, his triceps have healed, and he is still working out at Redskins Park .

We haven't given up on Pete Kendall yet. We're looking at people at free agency but have not made any decisions.

Casey Rabach is one of the top players I've ever coached at his position.

We're expecting a lot from Chad [Rinehart].
When he was activated
towards the end of the season, the light bulb went on.
He went back home to northern Iowa but will be back here in March for workouts.

Randy Thomas had major neck surgery, but he is good to
play another 3-5 years
. That was big time surgery.
The triceps injury from 2 years ago still messed him up.

Jon [Jansen] was never 100%, but he is better than some tackles at 85% (as they show a clip of him getting pushed back 3 yards). The ankle injury really slowed him.

Stephon Heyer has come light years from where he was last year.
Chris Samuels and Randy Thomas took him under their wing and worked out with him over his first off-season. Stephon has been with us two years and has been hurt for two years. Hopefully this third year is the charm and he can stay healthy.

Justin Geisinger. His rehab is going well. He's a legit tough guy, and I'm not worried about him.

I hope Heyer stays healthy and we see what we have in Rinehart.

I dont believe anything from JLC about Rinehart. Remember the same things were said about Rocky and he performed at a high level in his first playing season.

Realistically, this team needs depth and if everyone can play well

The line could look like Sammy, Rine, Rabach, Thomas and Heyer for another year

I think you might be able to pass by on that line for another year until major upgrades are needed. I think you have to give Heyer a chance to play an entire year.

Revamp the Dline first

Sad thing is Buges needs to realize that these guys are old and new blood is needed on the OL. He's been known to establish a bond with his OL, like family. He needs to separate his feelings from their play and see the forest for the trees.

With all due respect, our OL needs to be revamped. Look at our statistics from last year. We had a decent DL and our OL stunk to put it mildly. JMO.

Well guys, you heard the man. O-line is not a weakness, let's get a defensive back!!!

He definitely did not say that we don't need Oline help, for those who didn't see the interview and are going only by quotes in this thread. There's a big difference between thinking we're fine and publicly humiliating your players. Buges knows the difference. Apparently some of you guys don't.

It would be nice to know if Buges realized it or not. He did replace 3 starters when he got here in 1981 and had a young center who'd come off the trash heap who became a pretty solid starter. During Gibbs second go around, the center and LG changed and he has used every resource at his disposal to get depth. In any case, again ,he's got a severe resource shortage to do anything about it this year it except to be positive about what he's got. He'll get one or two quality guys and maybe a couple more from different NFL trash heaps to see if they're any better than what he's already got.

He knows. He's just too loyal to his guys to say anything in public about them. But he knows what needs to be done and won't hesitate to do it. No need for public humiliation in the process.

You mistake what we're saying. These quotes are all I have to go from, so perhaps he mentioned it but it wasn't quoted, but what we want to see is "we're going to look to get young replacements for these great offensive linemen who are in the twilight of their careers." Was that last sentence humiliating to anyone?

I'm not saying he should bash his players, but an indication that he would like to ease these guys out to pasture would be nice. Instead we get Randy Thomas can play til he's 50 and Kendall is our future at LG. Exaggerations, of course, but it would be nice if he gave an indication that he would like to get younger.

Nah I know what you're saying. And a big part of the interview was him saying that they would have to look for younger player if I recall correctly. He was just giving update on the players we already have in the part that was quoted here.

Merging the threads on your own?

I decided to express a few of my opinions in Haiku's for a while. It makes my posts shorter.

Whats up with Heyer?

Will he be a good starter?

Or just a backup?

What about Kendall?

I called Rinehart a monster,

...in the preseason...

we have some backups

but could they be good starters?

Why not play rookies?

how bad is our line?

we did not bench our starters

are the subs bad too?

how bad are our subs?

a bunch of undrafted guys

can we call that depth?

has Buges lost his touch?

or does Zorn just not have "it"

just thirteen yards short

We can't even run

Portis started offso strong

then hit a bick wall

ok, thats all I've got on this topic for now.

QFT.

It's like if a coach doesn't throw his players under the bus, some people think it means we don't realize an area is a weakness. Those same people get ticked when they are called bashers/haters, yet can't wait to label someone a homer or blind if there isn't any pessimism in their post. Nowhere did Buges suggest the OL is fine as is.

Even Randy Thomas said they needed help last offseason. I think Buges is probly of the same opinion but wont really say it publically.

I guess no one reads Redskins.com, because this info has been up there for over a week. I'm surprised it has taken this long to get posted.

BTW, I don't really see much in Buges' comments that contradicts much that was said in JLC's article. Yes, he's a ray of sunshine about his players in public, but you can also read between the lines a bit.

All that BUGLE speak is the same ole stuff we had last summer when he said Jansen was looking as good as ever and Heyer was the "great kid" and Randy Thomas is a "beast".

Go to the Bengals site or the Lions site and you'll get the same kind of optimistic praise from their coaches. Thats what coaches are paid to say but reality is on Sunday and we all watched Jansen get ripped a new one everytime he came up against a speed rusher, Heyer is having a problem staying healthy because he gets pushed around, maybe he needs to work out a bit more in the offseason, and Randy Thomas has been bitten by the injury bug for several seasons in a row now and he is obviously nearing the end.

So what did you expect Bugel to say? Certainly not what I just said. But he is thinking it.
