Redskins Fans vs. Steeler Fans

Hello all....I had the extreme displeasure of spending most of the playoffs and the Super Bowl around Steeler fans. At least they were born and raised in Pittsburgh. After the SB, we got into a discussion about fan base. They were both adamant that they want everybody to be Steeler fans, regardless of why. They said they would accept somebody who wore a Cards jersey to the Super Bowl, but a Steeler one afterwards. That it didnt matter about team loyalty, or knowledge. I told them that I, for one, didnt want somebody wearing a Redskins jersey just because they won the SB the year before. I said I didnt want anybody to enjoy the glory, that hadnt been there for the years of pain and dissapointment. They said I was not a true Redskins fan, I should want everybody wearing B&G. I'm curious what everyone's take on this is.. Am I out of line in my beliefs? What do you think:

Take anybody who wants to wear B&G, regardless of loyalty or team knowledge?

Or expect a higher standard?

I see where you're coming from, but why not welcome them? What, people can only choose to become Skins fans when we're losing? People become fans when they see a team that has positive things going for them. Winning is one of those positives.

I welcome any new Skins fans, and would dog them only if they stopped being Skins fans for another bandwagon.

I see where you are coming from also....Winning is definitely a positive, and I would love for the world to see the "Skins winning again....But I see that as a reason to become a fan if you don't have a team, or have never really watched football before, or maybe as a child you see the 'Skins doing well.....Not simply because your current team is maybe not so successful at the time....I see that simply as a way to avoid dealing with difficult times and(from personal experience) ridicule from friends and other football fans. It just doesnt sit well with me....but maybe I'm wrong...I just know I feel a certain pride every year, knowing I love the Redskins no matter what...

I don't care if people are wearing the burgundy and gold as bandwagon fans. What I do care is if they are too vocal about the team and start talking **** about jumping ship when the team isn't doing well. Just stfu and go out quietly.

All fans have to start somewhere, and if it isn't passed down through the family, they often get started as a bandwagon fan.

It's annoying when people pretend to be hardcore fans when they haven't spent countless hours ****ing and complaining on ES about how our team sucks...just kidding...but I'm happy when people want to be Skins fans, I just hate stupid girls (and guys) that don't know crap about football and want to be fans when they can't even tell me our QB's name...or coach's name...or anyone's name...

Where'd that thread go where we had all those questions we should ask some one to find out if they were a true fan or not? Like what did Green put in his socks before games? And who our starting O-line is? That was a fun thread. :-D

I would like the fact that somebody would want to wear a Skins jersey just for the look. Knowing the ins and outs of the team is stuff made for us butt nutts. How many ladies know intricies of the game? Yeah they know the players but its the butt nutts who know everything else.

This is funny because I live on the Eastern Shore of Va which is Skins/Ravens/Eagles/Steelers country. I think you can say that if there was anything such as a relative team in the AFC it would have to be the Steelers or Jets. I am not a Steeler fan but for some reason being a butt nutt I know the ins and outs of the Steelers.

Wear the B and G. I dont give a **** if you know how the team is going. throw it up for the B and G.

This is just one steeler fan and I disagree with his view.. There is nothing worse than a bandwagon fan and nothing better than loyalty.. True fans are made when a team is at their worse..

In the question of Redskins Fans vs. Steeler Fans.. I'm sorry to say it, but with their passion, commitment and dedication.. combine that with their general knowledge, and attitude toward the game.. Steeler Fans wipe the floor with Redskins fans.. It isn't even a contest.. You want proof.. Look at the Steeler @ Skins game in the middle of the season when the skins were still division contenders.. When Byron Leftwich completed passes you heard cheers.. and it wasn't because he's from the DC area either.. Black and Gold dominated the stands.. it was discusting.. that sort of garbage would NEVER happen in Pittsburg..

After the steeler fans disgraced us in our house this year..they made my S*** List.

Most of the ones I know are arrogant and make it easy for me to despise them.

May they never see another superbowl. They might as well have a freekin star on their helmets as far as I am concerned.

Steeler fans seem to be edging out the Cowboys for the nations largest fanbase. I guess as a fan of the burgundy-n-gold it's better to see black-n-gold than silver-n-blue across this great land.

As far as comparing our loyal fans to the Steelers out of market fans who've jumped on the bandwagon, it shouldn't be hard to understand why the Steelers have so many fans. There's a lot more to like about the Steelers than the Redskins if you're gonna choose a team.

Hate to tell you, but I bet 80% of those Steeler fans bought those tickets before the season even started. THey also filled Fedex the previous year during a preseason game. Its not like the tickets were sold when we were contenders.

Just thought I would point out that "Pittsburg" is spelled with an "h"...As in Pittsburgh....Anyway, the question is not "who is most loyal", the question is what type of fan would everyone be willing to accept....I personally do not like people jumping onto a team because of their immediate success. Would it not upset you that somebody would walk around with a Steeler jersey on right after the superbowl, accepting congratulations from everybody, when he spent the entire season wearing other colors?

Why would you be sorry to say it you're a Steelers fan?

You want proof

No one asked you for proof. We know what happened.

It's not hard to be loyal when your team is consistantly one of the best in all of pro sports.

Don't hurt your shoulder patting yourself on the back.

Just be thankful for all that you have as a Steelers fan.

You know, the media and ESPN always rant and rave about how Steelers fans travel so well and are so loyal, which is true. But, that damn franchise has been successful since the frickin 70's til now.

I'd love to see how loyal they are and how well they travel if the have a couple consecutive losing season.

That's when the true loyalty will be shown.

In this area they don't have to travel far. I'm not talking about from here to Pitt either. A lot of 'em live here. Almost every bar I go into is split they are a Skins/Pitt bar. :logo:

I read an article a few years back as to why there are so many Pitt fans scattered around the US. When the steel industry went under families had to leave to get jobs abroad. If you think it makes a lot of sense.

Well, during the 1980s the Steelers basically hovered around .500 with Chuck Noll as their coach. And Cowher, after taking the Steelers to multiple AFCCG and a SB in the mid-1990s, had a few lean years at the end of the decade.

Exactly. I was born and raised in DC, but I've got a lot of friends and family in Pittsburgh. Steelers are my fave AFC team. I actually hate the Ravens. It's only like 4 and half hours to Pitt from DC...it might be longer to Philly from DC than. The whole of western MD has a lot of Steelers/Skins fans.

As far as bandwagon fans go, the Ravens take the cake. The DC area is littered with brand new Ravens fans.

Agreed. I give new fans the benefit of a doubt. The proof of what kind of fans they really are for me is, do they stop being Skins fans when playoffs roll around and we aren't there?

I would have to think so....If they were real 'Skins fans they would have been here already right??

I do agree. I'm ready to see how faithful Steeler fans are when they have a visit with a 5-11 and 6-10 season(S).

I think they could take a few years off from being dominant and still have a really strong fan base.

Tough, hard-nosed, football city, with 6 Super Bowl titles to talk about...that's a good legacy to keep a large fan base built on.

I don't mind Steelers fans at all.

They overwhelmed our home stadium. Wow, big deal. That's our fault for having some crappy fans that either couldn't get tickets before the Pittsburgh crowd, or even worse, gave away/sold their tickets to the Steelers fans.

I have nothing but respect for an organization as top-notch as the Steelers, and I can't at all hate their fans for sticking with them throughout the country. I only wish our fan base was really that strong.
