the new models (08/09) don't seem to have reliabliltiy issues:

Gee an '08/'09 doesn't have reliability issues?

Kind of soon don't you think? It would be a lemon if it did. I would reserve making judgement on a car that new untill it is at least 4 years old before making a statement of reliability.

I always buy American and got my 2006 G6 for about $15,000. I have not had any problems with it yet and it has 75k miles on it already (I drive a lot). My brother bought a 2006 fusion for about $14,000 and has been really happy with it. I do think if you are looking for a car that will not cost you a lot, Hyundai is the way to go. The warranty is just too good. My wife has a 2004 Elantra and even though we have had to fix minor things here and there, we never pay for any of it.

German cars are P.O.S'. I worked in a foreigh car garage in high school. Believe me when I say that luxury German cars are for people with money to spend. Because you will certainly spend money on them well after purchasing them.

I have a 2003 Ford Focus. I have spent less than $1,000 total on repairs not covered in the warranty, and only took it in once for a warrant service.* It has 90K miles on it and going strong.

*I have a 5 speed. Many times American trans are usually the first thing to give you problems which cost a lot. Needless to say I have the original clutch and it never needs servicing.

I'm in the new car market as well. I'm choosing between:

new Honda Accord (190hp 4cyl one) or used 2007-8 Accord V6 (2007 has old body style)---great resale and reliability.

new Hyundai Sonata v6--must be reliable b/c they should have gone out of business by now with their 100k warranties if their cars were junk

new Subaru Legacy H6 or 2.5--AWD and sound system are appealing

I'm looking to spend sub 25k but I want something with power windows/locks, AC, moon roof and good power.

Back in '03 we bought a new 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe with the 3.5L engine. I forget exactly what we paid, but the sticker price was $24,354.

It was a great vehicle, not one problem, until our son totalled it:doh:

The 100K warranty is not free. The powertrain is covered. If you want the 100K mile bumper-to-bumper warranty, you will have to buy it. If memory serves, we paid around $789.00 for the extended coverage. I'll never know if it was worth it, as it had 65K on it when he wrecked the car.:(

The only issue(s) was the interior. The plastic looked ok at first but, after a couple of years, it didn't appear to wear very well and started to look dirty and cheap, now matter how often you cleaned it.

After tons of research, we just bought a Honda CR-V. We got the base model 4WD and it's less expensive than the Santa Fe. It's only a 4 cyl, but perfect for my wife, who has a very short drive to work. It also handles a lot better than the Santa Fe. It's more responsive and corners better. The gas mileage is also better.

With all that being said, you can still tell that you are in a 4-cyl and I still can't get past the 4-cyl whine and prefer my truck, (07 Chevy Silverado) ;)

I just went to Honda and Hyundai and the base 4WD model is less than $100 more expensive for the Santa Fe with more ammenities...
