Shilsu
Are you seriously trying to claim the situations are the same? Clinton Portis was a 22 year old running back when the Skins made the trade. He has rushed for over 6,000 yards in his 5 years here and scored 45 touchdowns. These numbers were not out of the blue. They were expected. Shawn Alexander has rushed for 730 yards in the two years since Seattle tried to trade him after two injury plagued seasons. He was 30 when the Seahawks tried to trade him. Edgerrin James was 28 years old and had already completed 7 seasons. Both Alexander and James were cooked and everybody knew it. The situations aren't even remotely close to being the same. You don't trade a franchised CB regarded as the #1 corner in the league AND a second round pick for a runningback. And you spout 6,000 yards and 45 TD as if that's what we were trading for. We were trading for 1500 yards at 5.5ypc and double digit touchdowns. Is that what we got? Nope. And that's not Portis' fault. It's just more idiocy by the Redskins front office. Brucko
We need a faster, good receiving back up running back. Is there anyone in the draft that would fill that need in the later rounds. Sproles would be a great pick up.
terpskins10
Somebody will take Betts. Hell Cleveland needs an RB. Lewis is gettin too old. Oh definitely. Ladell Betts is exactly one day younger than Jamal Lewis. A real youth movement!

That had tons to do with the trade we made with Denver for CP! We won that trade hands down.
Lombardi's_kid_brother
Sproles is now the hot back du jour. I want proof that anybody advocating for Sproles watched one minute of him prior to Sunday night.
CM916
6th rounder if you're lucky.
Ernie5
Meanwhile, we traded Champ Bailey and a second round pick for Clinton Portis. A deal I still mostly like.

I've watched Sproles with amazement since his K-State days. Probably more expensive than we want to go, however.
IWANTOBEGM
nothing, rb's like Betts are a dime a dozen....each year there are 4-5 rb's available in the draft that are better and about another 6-8 that are the same caliber.
ZRagone
Offer him to Arizona (who is a pass happy team with issues at RB with an aging and unproductive Edge and a young Rookie still coming into his own) for a 5th and 7th or a 6th. Cleveland could be an additional option. I agree, we're a year too late with this though.
bulldog
Carlos Rogers is the only tradeable commodity on the Redskins. He is 26 years old and is still working on his rookie contract. That makes a deal doable under the cap. And he might net a fair return. Betts isn't worth much. He's 30 years old and has just one season of starting experience in the NFL. The Redskins, though signing him to a new deal in 2007, sure haven't overused him If Betts got more carries and more opportunities as a pass receiver it might lessen the wear and tear on Portis and allow #26 to finish out the season on a stronger note. I'm afraid you won't be able to keep CP happy if you do that however. He wants his carries. Everyone seems to be moving toward the RB platoon system these days, except for us... bulldog
Snyder created the monster that is Clinton Portis. Portis has been coddled too much and coaches have not had any leverage on his behavior. The same thing but to a more destructive effect has happened in Dallas with Terrell Owens. What's going to happen when Portis starts to slow down and yet still thinks he is an elite back? Are we then going to be in the position of still starting him like Jon Jansen even though physically he is no longer capable of playing at a high level? This is what holds the Redskins back. There is no one in the organization that will say 'no' to the players. The owner should side with his GM and HC when Portis decides to spout off in public, but Snyder seems to alibi Portis as Portis is able to trade on his personal relationship with Snyder to get preferential treatment. This is one of the reasons you won't see a Bill Cowher or Bill Parcells come to the Redskins. The Redskins have promised some of the players so much money that they are now able to hold the team hostage with little if any penalty.
we_want_56
Sproles is now the hot back du jour. I want proof that anybody advocating for Sproles watched one minute of him prior to Sunday night. I've seen Sproles plenty this year...I have Sunday Ticket and LT was on my fantasy team (Wish I could redo that one)...SO oin watching the CHargers for that reason, I saw a lot of SProles...Specifically his burst. And even if you don't watch the chargers, I'm sure everyone has seen him on espn multiple times.
skinsfan07
Oh definitely. Ladell Betts is exactly one day younger than Jamal Lewis. A real youth movement! lol but he doesn't have as much wear and tear on him as Lewis does. So he def. could produce more than Lewis. The Browns O-line is very good when healthy. Joe Thomas is one of the best in the league.

SkinsAllDay34
Denver always is looking for backs old or young. Betts would fit well in there RB happy offense. He is a downhill runner that hits the hole right away with pretty good burst. Thats just a thought. Denver has done some dumb things around draft time *cough* Maurice Clarrett *cough*
Shilsu
A deal I still mostly like. It's not surprising. Most Redskins fans have been conditioned to be bigger fans of individual players than the team thanks to years of mediocrity.
McD5
Gibbs killed his trade value....and Zorn continues to do so today. If he wanted to trade him, he should have played him last game. But...unfortunately that would require intelligence. We don't have much of that.

We won that trade hands down. So apparently the Washington Redskins are the only team who has to settle for less when dealing with a player that has been designated the franchise tag. With the chips stacked against them, no wonder the Redskins are now mentioned in the same breath as the Detroit Lions and Arizona Cardinals. Yeen80
I don't think Betts' trade value will ever be as high as it was following the 2006 season where he ran for over 1,100 yards.
Taylorfan2179
I want to know what ARE's value is. Maybe package him with Betts, but i have no idea what team would take that package of salary. That would be like trading a team a bag of poop and some toilet paper.
