Westbrook36
I hate to relent on matters such as this. I hate the NY Giants. Seriously, lots of people in my family are Giants fans and I even hate them. Over the years, I've always been secure in the knowledge they were a lesser team than the Eagles. I always had Eli Manning to laugh at if they ever got on a winning streak. However, times have changed. When I watch them now, even through the hate, I see a simply awesome football team. They have the best depth that I have seen in a long time watching NFL football. Three RBs could start for a majority of football teams. Their OL is simply the best in the business. Their scheme plays to the strengths of their team. Very well coached. Don't make many mistakes. I watch them and wish my team were like them. They run the ball down your throat, even when you know its coming. When they loosen you up with the running game, they pass at will. On defense, they lose their top two DEs and don't seem to miss a beat. In the NFL, the first thing a defense tries to do is make you one dimensional. If you completely take away one aspect of the other team, the other will be conversely easier to defend (makes me wonder why the Eagles purposly make themselves one dimensional). However, at this time, it seems impossible to shut down the Giants formula. Now that I have completely sucked them off, they probably have no chance of winning the SB as everything I predict completely falls apart.
manicd
I like where your mind is at. Giants might be the best team EVER!!!!!!! Now that my hopes are always crushed, that doubles the chances of them not making it to the SB.

SonnyJ
The Giant running game is a force of nature right now. I have never seen a team so proficient at running the ball. Inside, outside, doesn't matter. If the Skins can somehow hold them under 200 on the ground, I'll consider it a moral victory. As much as I believe that the Redskins couldn't score 3 TDs against a defense sporting only a DL, so I believe you could put up a solid stone wall six feet thick and 10 feet high from sideline to sideline and the Giants would still manage to gain 150 yards on the ground. I think you have to sell out against their running game and force Manning to beat you in the air. He's not a chump, but I would like my chances against him better than against their ground attack. What I want to know is what the hell they are feeding those Giant OL? Those guys NEVER get hurt. How on Earth does a line stay intact for 2 straight seasons? It's like they're bionic. Every OL gets nicked and loses a few man-games from the starters. Not the Giants.

Big Blue Joe
Eli has been a good game manager for the Giants. (Managed not to lose the game for them). Any defensive penetration destroys Eli. Eli has an 18-7 TD-INT ratio this season. He and Plax have been the highest scoring QB-WR combo since Plax joined the team. He has finished 4th in TD passes twice in the first 4 years of his career and is currently tied for 6th. He threw for 3 TD's with a 127 QBR with both Plax and Brandon Jacobs on the bench yesterday. David Diehl(the Giants' left tackle) lead the league in number of sacks allowed last year. And he was sacked 3 times(would have been 4 if he didn't break three tackles on one play) during the Superbowl. How is Eli a game manager, and what are you basing his destruction at the hands of any defensive pressure on?

zoony
What's funny to me though is that when the Giants were mediocre- which they were until about Game 16 last season for the past several years- Eli was absolutely massacred in the press. His decision making, accuracy, leadership, everything was under RELENTLESS attack. Now the Giants have turned it all around, and the only thing we hear is that Eli is a "game manager". WTF is a "game manager", anyways? The Giants running game is no joke. But make no mistake, without Eli Manning behind center, they are nowhere near the team they've shown. If he's going to get blasted when they lose, he should get a lot of the credit for when they win. He's played incredible football over these past 15 games or so. BayouBrave86
And the Skins could have stopped it all had they just held on for the win in Week 3 last season. I'll never forget that game. Oh and I keep thinking back to that game a while ago against the Giants where we went up 28-0 only to hold on to win 28-21. I keep thinking that is going to happen this week for some strange reason. And he was sacked 3 times(would have been 4 if he didn't break three tackles on one play) during the Superbowl. How is Eli a game manager, An OL that gives him extensive time to throw and gives a very good group of RB's big holes. One of the most consistent WR's ever in the league in Toomer. One of the few true #1 WR's as you shared stats reflect. And to top it off one of the stingiest defenses in the league. With all these assets why is his passing percentage in the middle of the pack? Your talk of Diehl's improvement is not due to Eli, it is the reverse. Tom and I had numerous discussions on how effective Diehl would be replacing LP. He has grown into a much more competent LT then I thought possible. Eli has greatly benefited from not worrying about his blind side and being awarded extensive time to stand in the pocket. Trent Dilfer was the ultimate game manager with the Ravens. Eli has evolved (specifically since Shockey went down at the end of last year) into a much better player then Dilfer but is not dominating. This is reflected by teams trying to game plan around making Eli beat them in the air. Unfortunately the OL has wiped out many teams plans. and what are you basing his destruction at the hands of any defensive pressure on?See the Cleveland game. It was the only time this season he has seen consistent pressure. The Giants OL just could not control or account for Shaun Rogers who was moved all over the line and even to LB. I can only imagine Seubert pooped a little when he saw Rogers coming at him as a blitzing LB with a seven yard head of team.

I'm also seeing a guy who is moving well in the pocket and extending plays. Unfortunately, that's what I see as well. Manning never strikes you as an exceptionally athletic guy, which creates an extremely unorthodox look to his game, but the results don't lie. It's amazing how well he hangs in the pocket and finds the open man, especially on third down. He's good. The Giants are really good. It's a real bummer.
