surferskin
I love Portis to death but he's not going to hold up with another season like this one. He carried us yesterday with a bad knee, hip and ankle. We almost gave him THIRTY carries. Portis obviously tough but I worry if we can't get him a nice compliment that can get 10-15 carries, then we won't have the services of ol' #26 much longer. This year, we've gotta go with what we got but we need to draft a replacement for Betts cuz he's just not getting the job done. I'd love it if we could address this with one of the first 3 rounds. I agree we should draft a RB, although maybe in the later rounds. However, Betts not getting it done? Where is that coming from?
Darc Requiem
RB!? We need to draft some linemen. RB is the least of our worries.
fwo40
OLB, DL, OL-should all come 1st, but if you want to take a late round flier on an RB that's ok I guess.
cphil006
RB!? We need to draft some linemen. RB is the least of our worries. Exactly, we have a great back-up in Betts. If we see a big guy with talent in the late rounds that is hard to pass up... draft him... otherwise def not in the first three rounds... we need linemen and linebackers... Kurd Cudins
In your plan do we release Betts, because that would create $3M in dead cap, despite his cap # only being $2M next year?
surferskin
The least of our worries? Agreed, that we could use some younger lineman but the day Portis gets hurt, a great team strengthen becomes a huge weakness. At this point we're running #26 until his wheels fall off. Hopefully that's later, rather than sooner but we need to be ready for that day.

JerseySkinsFan1
This draft shouldn't be hard to read at all. It's DE/DT/OL all the way. :dallasuck

Sweet Sassy Molassy
RB!? We need to draft some linemen. RB is the least of our worries. Agreed. Both lines are getting old. The O-line is a major concern to me. Hopefully Rinehardt will be ready to make an impact next year and replace Kendall, with Heyer hopefully improving on his run blocking and becoming a force on the right side replacing Jansen. However, we're going need to replace Thomas, Samuels, and Rabach sooner rather than later. We still don't have a real consistent pass-rusher. And Jason Taylor is only getting older and so far hasn't really done that much. So the lines are major issues this coming offseason.
surferskin
Do you guys realize we could have drafted Chris Johnson this past year? That's exactly what I'm talking about. We could use a young guy with homerun ability or a Jacobs type that can crush defenses in the second halfs of games. Betts was great in 06 but other that, he's just a major downgrade to CP. He doesn't do ANYTHING better or even different. He just a little worse.
Kurd Cudins
The Skins know how to work the cap.It has nothing to do with working the cap and everything to do with being a stupid managerial decision. Why replace a solid backup with an unproven rookie if it doesn't save you money?

Sweet Sassy Molassy
Do you guys realize we could have drafted Chris Johnson this past year? Yeah drafting him in the first round would have been the dumbest move we could have made too. Misterwookas
I am pretty sure we get a back in the later rounds. I don't see why everybody is knocking the o line. If it wasn't for them, Clinton would not be getting the yards like he has. Like I have said before, if we can that vertical passing game going, we are going to be the sleeper of the playoffs looking to upset some people. Never4get#21
The Skins know how to work the cap. Yeah restructure contracts OR hope they dont have a new CBA so we have no cap. The FO is clueless thats why were in Cap Hell. Now we have to try to sign D Hall, S Springs, or how bout a JC contract??
surferskin
That's pretty much the definition of a backup. No, some guys backup compliment each other. Look at the Giants backfield or the cowboys before Jones got hurt. Plus my whole point is that Portis is going to break down soon if we don't get him some who can share a good portion of the load. Not just be a token backup.
ridgely00
They better start addressing these creaky OL and DL's before they do anything.

At some point, the guy we could draft in 09 won't be just a backup. That's what is most important here, COULD. You assume that we will draft a future starting RB, the odds are not in your favor. We have absolutely no reason to draft a RB until the 2011 draft. Until then, we have three proven guys and can fill the #4 spot, if necessary, through UDFA's(Mason) and mid-season pickup's(Alexander).
addicted
I agree that drafting a RB should be done this year. In my opinion with Betts we know what we get and it's not good enough. Cutting him would create dead cap space but that never stopped us in the past. Betts doesn't belong on the team anymore and should be sent packing. Betts: 1. Turns the ball over 2. Can't get us tough yards when needed 3. Has a bad average per carry 4. Isn't explosive 5. Can't fill in for Portis 6. Isn't a goal line RB A change of pace RB is what this team needs. The Defense is good enough to shut down most teams but when Portis is out the offense struggles. We need a complimentary RB that is as fast or faster then Portis to really open up this offense. Its time that Thunder and Lightening came to Washington. A RB as fast as Felix Jones would be a monster here along side Portis. Derrick Ward who is an UFA this season would be a better fit for us then Betts who's been less then average his whole career other then what he did 3 seasons ago. I would draft a RB in 2009
#98QBKiller
We need OL in the offseason. Whether it's the draft for FA, we need a stud RT. If he's not franchised, we should make a move for Jordan Gross of Carolina. Was drafted in 2003 and is one of the best RTs in the league. He's a FA in 2009 and adding him would let us keep our 1st round pick for an LB or DL., leaving us free to look at possibly a Center in round 3. Forehead
Do you guys realize we could have drafted Chris Johnson this past year? So what...the year before, we could have drafted Adrian Peterson instead of LaRon Landry, but I don't hear anyone whining about that. I really don't think RB is a huge concern for us at the moment. Having a younger, quicker, healthier Offensive Line would probably go a long way to helping Portis take less hits.
