Redskins @ Ravens ES/RR Super Away Game Tailgate Party

I'm starting this thread to maximize exposure for the @ Ravens game. If you plan on going and you'd like to tailgate with us, please bump this thread, then click on the below link for all the details. We have a lot all picked out and it's perfect. It's even covered! And we're cooking a whole pig among other things. And everybody is invited - even Redskins fans who aren't members and are on read only - but please bring something to contribute (e.g. a six pack of beer and a lb of hamburger wouldn't hurt - a keg of beer wouldn't hurt either). Otherwise, a few bucks would help.

Repeat: PLEASE BUMP THIS THREAD SO OTHERS SEE IT! Then click below. Thanks!

I got a parking pass in LOT O. Not sure where that will be in relation to the tailgate but I will be with 3-6 others depending where my buddies are getting their tailgate pass. My tix are in section 142.

If your tailgaiting in LOT O i will be stopping by!

Anyone know anything about LOT O...where it is exactly....decent spot for tailgaiting?

I think we need to choose a cash lot because of all the potential people who will be joining us.

does anyone know of a Ravens board? I'd like to troll it.

C'mon over. There are a half dozen local boards, plus the ESPN and other national ones. Two have smak forums, already inhabited by Redskins fans for years, where you would be welcome. The Ravens team board is dominated by teens - no smak talk anywhere. The Scout board, with a more adult memebership, has a smak forum. "Kenskin" has been the resident troll there for going on a decade, who has annual meltdowns after major Redskins losses. The Ravens 24x7 board is more oriented towards serious football discussion, also has a smak forum. The Sunpapers board has been inhabited by a few Redskins trolls for years, but has recently cleaned up its act due to complaints and may no longer be as welcoming.

Mista T, you seem to know a lot about the stadium and Ravens. Anything you can tell us re parking? Any city ordinances we should know about, for example? Thank-you.

Yeah Mark. I've been following your tailgating thread and was thinking of interjecting there, but you beat me to it.

For opponent fans who don't know Baltimore, and in particular don't know the parking around the stadium, my best advice is to pool your resources into a van, pay the $100+ scalper's price for one vehicle, to park it in one of the Stadium Authority lettered lots: A, B, C, G, H, J, or O. And others take the Light Rail or drive to one of the downtown garages to meet up with the van by walking. The reason I recommend this is because our downtown stadium has but an 8,000 or so stadium parking capacity, (compared to RalJon's 25,000) and all 8,000 spots are sold to season ticket holders. Many of the nearby private lots are also presold. Unless you get there very early for this high demand game, chances are that you will be disappointed, winding up at parking garage anyway, or parking in a 2 hour residents sticker zone and getting a $500 tow job. There is no street parking in a safe area within 8/10 blocks which isn't resident restricted, and the tow job and fine are virtually automatic. Here's a map:

Light Rail is much more football fan friendly than DC Metro. The Hamburg Street station is a few hundred feet from the stadium entrance. (See red on map above). And for post-game, the MTA lines up multiple trains to handle the large exodus. Coming north from the Capital Beltway via I-95 or the BW Parkway, you have two choices: the Cromwell (Glen Burnie) line, or the BWI line. For Cromwell, which has a 750+ parking capacity but fills up quickly for Ravens games, take MD 100 east to I-97 north, then exit 15A or 16. For the BWI line, take I-195 east into the airport garage ($2/hour), or free parking at the small "Ravens overflow" lot: I-195 east, MD 170 north about 1/2 mile, then it's marked on your left. Note: Light Rail for some inexplicable reason starts running at 10 am, cutting into your tailgating time. It's about a 20-25 minute ride to the Stadium at $1.65.

Parking garages require about a half mile walk past the baseball stadium along Eutaw Promenade, which has outside bars and grills and other activities. The University of Maryland garage advertises $10/day. Other garages toward Harborplace along Pratt and Lombard Streets would likely be more.

If you really have to drive all the way and want to tailgate from your vehicle, your choices are to buy a scalped parking pass at a stadium lot, advertised by brokers for $150+, or to get there very early (9 am or so) to try to snag a non-ghetto lot for $30 to $40. I recommend driving north along Warner (parallel to the BW Parkway, turn right just past the I-95 viaduct). There are 1/2 dozen lots with guys waving yellow flags. Crummy old industrial area, but it's safe, bordering Lot J. Beyond that, go right on Stockholm to a couple private lots under the I-395 viaduct - slim chances. There are a few more small lots along Ostend, away from the stadium, but walk in groups. The Staples lot to the northwest of the Stadium is large, but fills up fast. In general, avoid parking to the west of the stadium, as it's a borderline buffer area to West Baltimore (watch "the Wire" for an explanation).

Anything else you want to know, like the point spread? (I say Ravens by 2 1/2 if we beat Philly, by 1 if we lose) Or anything else about the Stadium per se -- I have attended every game there and about 10 games at FedEx, so I can relate the differences pretty well.;)

Thanks Mista T. Great info! I do have a plan in place for parking, but I'll confirm that tomorrow morning after the reconnaisence mission. ;)

For you all who have already paid for lot passes, consider tailgating with us in our exclusive cash lot - all Redskins fans together in one place. Consider selling your parking passes and tailgating with us. Just keep an open mind about that and check back tomorrow or Monday at the latest when the plan is all layed out. It might be more fun to tailgate with 30-40 Redskins fans rather than 4. Thanks. :)

Mark,

I hope to be there.

I'll wait for everything to be locked up, but I'll contact my friend tonight and make arrangements.

Now we were planning to do something simple food wise:

Thought about doing some breakfast with eggs, sausage (or scrapple) and pancakes

now as for a main meal we were think about:

Brats, grilled boneless chicken breasts and some nice boneless pork chops with Jack Daniels BBQ.

However, if we get this planned out and the tailgate set....I am more than willing to do ribs .

Let me know what you guys are doing and I can come up with something to contribute.
