Tim MacMahon E-mail News tips

Rookie RB Felix Jones has been placed on the injured reserve and will have surgery to repair a torn ligament underneath his left big toe.

A date has yet to be set for the operation, which will be performed by Dr. Robert Anderson, a foot and ankle specialist in Charlotte, N.C.

Jones, the No. 22 overall pick in the draft, provided a big-play complement to Marion Barber and showed flashes of brilliance in his six games. He had 266 yards on 30 carries (8.9 yards per carry) and scored four touchdowns, including a kickoff return.

Jones suffered a partially torn hamstring on a 14-yard run in the loss to the Cardinals and hasn't played since. He suffered the toe injury while rehabbing his hamstring.

The Cowboys' medical staff, with input from Dr. Anderson, determined that the best option for Jones' long-term future would be to have season-ending surgery on the toe.

didnt see it posted anywhere.

It seems that people were right when they claimed the Cowboys were due for injuries, after several consecutive years of very good luck in those regards.

Tell me about it. We've gone through on Offensive Line, our Secondary and Receivers being injured in the last couple of years. You guys have had issues at Linebacker, Safety and now DE. The Eagles had their Secondary, Linebackers and RB's/WR's the last couple of years. I'm glad the odds have swung.

the eagles have had it the worst i think. losing your qb is far and away the worst thing that can happen and its happened more than once. this year for the cowboys would be the worst single year out of all the nfce teams though. qb, oline, multiple cb, rb, multiple wr, punter. really trying to make up for the years of minimal injuries.

That's a typical number of injuries. Most teams have at least a couple of players on IR and several other players who've missed multiple games. You don't realize how incredibly lucky the Cowboys have been over the past few years.

i think i just said they have been lucky, but this year has been horrible for injuries. that is not a typical number of injuries in the nfce. i can only say the eagles have had it as bad, losing mcnabb and westbrook constantly(their whole offense, the two of them). dallas just losing their qb in a passing offense is enough to put them up there, especially when the backups are nowhere near his level of play. they went from a top offense to one of the worst in the league just with him being out(coincidentally, their oline went from probowlers to being some of the worst, sort of the opposite when Romo sits to pee came in for bledsoe...isn't that interesting? it isn't just the oline that makes a qb, the qb can also make a line appear to be better than they are with a quick release and the ability to elude the rush). losing a one of the best punters to a guy they had to pick up also severely hurts field position and just compounds things. i don't see any other team having to deal with anything this severe besides the eagles.

The Cowboys lost Romo sits to pee for three games. That's nothing. Campbell was out for longer than that on the Redskins last year. McNabb has finished multiple years on the IR with the Eagles. Both of those teams have overcome injuries to their starting QB and went on to have successful playoff seasons. The Cowboys have had an average number of injuries this season.

That's nothing? You can't be serious.

Campbell was out for longer than that on the Redskins last year.

Campbell also has never been a pro-bowl caliber qb and was struggling mightily last year. Big difference. His injury was a blessing in disguise and btw, he was out for only 3.5 games.

The Cowboys have had an average number of injuries this season.

average? Dude you have to be kidding.

Felix Jones IR, Sam Hurd IR, Miles Austin, Kyle Kosier, Tony Romo sits to pee, Terrence Newman, Anthony Spencer, Dion Anderson, all missing significant time isn't average IMO.

Who's been out the entire year? In the last five years I can name at least one Skin per year who has not played a down for an entire season.

Get back to us when something bad happens to your team...until then, take a hike.

This is a huge loss for the cowboys. As much as I hate to admit it, Jones looked like a star in the making with his speed and vision. I cannot see Barber running the ball 25 times a game without slowing down . . . and if Tashard Choice is your primary backup, you got some problems.

How could you possibly know about Choice when he has about 20 carries on the year? Obviously, 20 carries isn't a good sample, but he's averaging 5.5 a carry. I don't know why you would assume he's garbage.

Interesting. Campbell missed the most important part of the season. And I wonder why you didn't say anything about MCNabb.

Actually it is. Last year on the Giants: Derrick Ward IR, Jeremy Shockey IR, Matthias Kiwanuka IR, Jim Finn(starting FB didn't even play a down) IR, Steve Smith, Brandon Jacobs, James Butler, Kevin Dockery, David Tyree, Sam Madison and Sinorice Moss all missed significant time. In addition, Plaxico Burress played the entire year with the muscles in his ankle separated from the bone, Amani Toomer was noticeably slowed by his recovering ACL through about week 15 or so, and Eli Manning played through a shoulder separation on his throwing arm. The Cowboys have an average number of injuries.

He missed some...

Roy Williams IR, Isaiah Stanback (has missed games and not been healthy all season), Mcbriar (IR), Witten (played the last 3 or 4 games with dislocated shoulder and the last couple with broken rib), Watkins(missed a couple of games), Burnett missed a few.

Hardly an average injury season.

Not complaining, just saying. Not writing off our season either because we have people getting healthier.

Burress?..That's funny, he always sez he's hurt, so he don't have to practice. But plays in every game!!

Sorry about his injury, but he really wasn't that big a piece in the Pokes offense....

he was a luxury item, not a key part

While that may be true, he WAS a big piece in the special teams. He gave us good field position on kickoffs (and the one TD). And now that Miles Austin, our other main kick returner, is out, a decent part of the game is missing for us. Besides, Felix was definitely making the most out of every opportunity he got on offense, whether he was a "big piece" or not.

IMO Austin was the better KR, Felix played in all of what 4-5 games?

I'm sorry, but a part-time player that has already missed half your games is hardly considered a big loss.

Poke Fans are acting like you've lost Witten or Ware.... Felix being out isn't going to cost you a win
