jeostang
What and where do you eat when you go out? I've been eating healthy and working out, but I miss eating out. A few days ago I went to Applebees and got a salad. When I got home I checked the calorie count and it was 800+. A what is good to order at Asian restaurants? cbeals
I've wondered the same thing, i don't think it's possible. The best thing i came up with is just not eating the whole portion, but it's still way up there no matter what you order
renaissance
Yea I don't think it's really possible at a lot of places. Most restaurants load up on butter and other crap when they're cooking. I just don't eat out too often - maybe 2-3 times a week max. When I do eat out I have 2 rules: 1. order something I couldn't make at home 2. don't give a damn about how healthy it is
zoony
I travel a lot and I just go to grocery stores for dinner. It's pretty much impossible to eat healthy at a restauarant.

Not totally true, alot of menus have "healthier" choices on them these days, and alot of them provide nutritional information. Check out http://www.dwlz.com/, they have alot of restaurants nutritional info there, and you can weed out whats good and bad before you go out to eat. Link directly to the restaurants http://dwlz.com/restaurants.html#O All of the "points" listed are for weight watchers, the lower the better of course. I should have qualified my statement. It's impossible to eat GOOD healthy food when you go out to eat I think Crapplebees has a healthy choice menu. And TGI ****days. Like I said, I go to the grocery store.
Toe Jam
Applebee's has a Weight Watchers menu. Taco Bell has a health menu as well.
brianm23
You have to watch these things very closely. Even something labeled "healthy" on the menu could still wind up being 700 calories and loaded with the wrong nutrients. I for the life of me can't imagine ANYTHING taco bell has to offer that might be "healthy". Even with breads and tortillas, you need something with low glycemic levels. Go with whole grain breads for the nutrients and well needed fiber. http://www.glycemicindex.com/ I eat out once (maybe twice) on the weekends, and I don't care about what I have. (pizza, burger, etc..) However, during the week and mostly on the weekend, I fix my own food so that way I know what I'm taking into my body in terms of calories, protein, fiber, fat, carbs, etc... Don't deprive yourself of foods you like, just don't over do it.
chipwhich
DButz the problem with eating out. Sodium, Sodium, Sodium. It's not healthy and I have seen reports where the "reported" nutritional information is false.
RyansRangers
a lot of restaurants now carry buffalo instead of hamburger it is 1/4 the fat of a hamburger and tastes the same. Salads are good but cheese and dressing add up real quick in fat and calories. Other than that if you want to go out to eat you can find tons of places such as Thai foods. But most is portion control before I go out to eat I normally eat something like granola bars before going out to eat that way I eat less.
Toe Jam
Even the lite dressings will get you. Salads from McDonalds or Wendy's should always be off limits. Subway can be good if you only get a six inch, skip the cheese, and don't pile a ton of dressing on it.

First off there are healthy fats and unhealthy fats. The government is debating putting heart healthy labels on Olive Oil because of americans obsession with fat is bad. If you don't understand why bread dipped in olive oil is healthier than the same bread eaten dry, then you won't understand. Fat free and light mayo is not healthy either. Stop fixating on fat and fixate on eating unprocessed food.

motorhead
Here is what I do. I eat healthy and work out Monday through Friday. Friday,Saturday or Sunday I eat what ever I want. Monday back to eating healthy. Except the Steel game. I got to tailgate!
Spaceman Spiff
Avoid mayonaise, cheese, anything fried. Substitute fruit instead of french fries. I don't always eat healthy, but I've been being more conscious of it lately. When I go to Burger King, I'll get a whopper JR, no mayo or cheese, but I'll tell them to throw an extra tomato on there and another burger patty for extra protein. Just because its on the menu doesn't mean you have to accept it as so. Tell the waiter/waitress what changes you want.
HogNose
Eat and drink what you want....but in moderation. Burn more calories than you take in and you'll always be okay.
