pez
So Huly rented me a couple horror movies because I love the genre... Another set of crappy filmed out of the basement on Sony handicam **** with especially crappy computer graphics superimposed. Storylines suck, and I am just pissed that noone can come up with anything nowadays. What was the last good horror movie to come out? Friday the 13th is coming out... a remake The Ring... copy of a Japanese film Halloween... a remake Saw 3,456... come on.. we know what is going to happen now! Can someone stand up and come up with something worthy? Are there no more filmmakers/writers who can satisfy us? It really seems like nothing worthy has come out since the late 70's and 80's.. Sucks for us horror fans....
Teller
The first Saw was phenomenal. But overall, you're right. Most horror flicks these days are horrible.
Springfield
The last good horror movie to come out is "1408". I highly recommend that one if you are a fan of the old school horror movies.

The last 30 minutes in the first Saw was phenomenal, the rest of it was just average.
TheGoodBits
Last good horror movie I saw was The Descent. Scared the piss out of me. I haven't been in a cave since.
spjunkies
What more can really be done at this point? the best case scenario is a movie that freaks your mind out like Silence of the Lambs.

Forehead
Well for what it's worth, I loved The Ring, I thought that was fantastic. And yeah, the 80's were awesome for horror, like the entire Children of the Corn series.
Brad_Edwards_Fan
i think that it partially comes down to the fact that with all the ability for special effects now gore has replaced story. Everything is a special effect blood bath rather then stories that mess with your head.

It seems like they are trying to invent new ways to make you sick to your stomach instread of getting you on the edge of your seat scared.

BigRedskinDaddy
"30 days of night" was goodhttp://www.imdb.com/title/tt0389722/ No it wasn't. It was exactly as an earlier poster said, blood-and-guts in the place of real suspense. Believe me, I'm a big vampire guy (werewolves too), but that movie -- outside of a very few scenes -- was a massive disappointment to me. The trend these days is leaning heavily to children of the night type movies, which is not a bad thing IMO. I just hope they don't wear out that particular niche before its time. RammsteinSkins
I thought 30 Days of Night wasn't scary just awesome on so many levels and I wish they would make more Vampire movies!!!
HEavyJumbo85
Everything is about gore nowadays...nothing really scary...it's like "oh great they're killing people with something...neat." Some weird looking dude walking up and cutting someone's head off isn't scary, it's just gross.
Forehead
Since everyone here is unsatisfied with the gore aspect, how do many of you feel about the Blair Witch Project. I personally thought it was great, although it freaked me out for two reasons. One, I was one of the early movie-goers so I bought into the hype, never stopping to ask why they would show real footage of people dying. Two, I had a men's leage baseball game to play the next morning, and it was at a field right near the woods where the film was made. I was looking over my shoulder between pitches. BigRedskinDaddy
Ok let me rephrase thatI THOUGHT 30 days of night was good, better? You sir, are of course entitled to your opinion. I should probably have re-phrased my response. It wasn't a bad movie for me, actually, but going in I was pretty hyped from the trailers. In the end I felt the storyline could have done much more with the original premise of the movie. Like I said earlier, I'm a BIG vamp and other monsters guy, so my standards in that respect are a little high perhaps.

Koolblue13
"30 days of night" was goodhttp://www.imdb.com/title/tt0389722/ If you are afraid of not being bored, watch this move. Nothing happens the entire movie. Not The Ruins bad, but damn. The last good horror movie to come out is "1408". Great movie. Me, I'm a big fan of 1,000corpses and Devils rejects. Very good Last House on the Left type horror movies.

I liked the Blair Witch Project. I found it very scary. Not to the point where I was afraid to go into the woods, but it was scary as far as movies are concerned. It was innovative. Blair Witch Project did what very few scary movies do these days. It left a lot to the imagination for you to scare yourself.

The entire reason I'm watching the movie is so it can scare me. If I want to scare myself, I'll watch an actually scary movie and then walk around the woods at night. Lazy movie.
