Plus, I like supporting craft beer, ie: the money is going to a good cause:cheers:I just started to drink stouts. Had this awesome nectar last week. Speaking of Dogfish Head. Don't bother with the World Wide Stout unless you really love Barely Wines as well as stouts. I don't mind dropping an occasional $5 or $10 to try something that is supposedly worth it. Beer, video game rentals, hookers...you know. I got 2 bottles of Dogfish Head 120 Minute IPA for my birthday last year (wrote about it in this thread). It's more of a smoother stout than say a Guinness or SA Cream Stout, probably because it's "fermented with Vanilla." The vanilla taste isn't too noticeable...this beer has a lot of bang for the buck. Hook & Ladder Backdraft Brown: I enjoyed the first couple bottles of this, but started to notice I'd rather have the other beers in my fridge. The main reason is because it seems a little watered down. It has a decent taste but you really have to concentrate to enjoy it. Heineken Dark Lager: I know I'll lose a lot of credibility within the beer snob circle for this one, but I enjoyed this brew. It's isn't anything to sit there, pick apart and study. I've gotten this beer several times and have no complaints. Pabst Blue Ribbon: Had this a few times during parties, never really thinking about taste while doing so. So I picked up a 12'er last week and let me tell you, even Clint Eastwood's character in Gran Torino can't make me appreciate this beer. It's awful. I'd rather have Natty, Schaefer, Beast, anything besides perhaps that swill the Miller company makes. This makes Natty Light taste like a Cherry Coke Slurpie while having an orgasm. Samuel Adams Honey Porter: Man, when I took the first sip of this I had to pull the bottle away and look at the label. Right away I thought to myself, "damn, this might be the best Sam Adams I've ever had." And if you asked me today what Sam Adams I'd drink for the rest of my life if I could only have one, I'd choose this one. Sorry Winter Lager, you still have the prettiest label. For $8.99, I find myself torn between getting a six pack of this and the Dominion Oak Barrel Stout on a weekly basis. Its German inspired beer but can't find it ANYWHERE. I mean he has been trying for years. He has been stationed in Europe and can't find it. He says its AWESOME!! They probably don't export it. A lot of breweries make Doppels though. A search on BeerAdvocate.com shows 40 of them. As long as the beer lines are kept clean, and it's dispensed from a balanced system, Brewery fresh beer always tastes better. I thought it was pretty good. I've never tried the Yakima Delight, but I will tell you that the last 2 kegs that I tapped has been the Victory Hop Devil. That is a hell of a beer list, but they are missing a lot of fantastic West Coast beers. Ale Smith, Port, Alpine, Lost Abbey, Ballast Point... Damn straight! We're headed to Lake Tahoe. Snowboarding aside, a big part of the fun is trying all of the different West Coast beers. The grocery store in town, (Raley's), has a great selection. Hell, even the casinos all have Sierra Nevada on draft. We always hit the Lake Tahoe Brewery too. I'm going to try to find some of those beers that you posted and give 'em a try. It's a more citrus hop than piney/spicy hop. i picked some up tonight. gotta say, the smell and taste starts alot like plastic. finishes very bitter. i'm ok with the bitter. but that thing tastes like a plastic phone book cover. whew! i can tell theres something under it - that hoppiness, if nothing else-that would be very good without that initial shock, but, its not for the faint of heart. of course, it could just be a batch that got a little loose. i am a big fan of the flying dog classic pale ale and IPA. i'm a hop head. but that extra 'flavor' is .....interesting. Hops are present but they eventually dissipate in to something that reminds me of chewing an Aspirin. Meh. Adriondack Lager: This is scrumptious and straightforward. A thicker body than most lagers I've had. Caramel with some hops. Good stuff. Black Forest: Damn, smells like grape juice and chocolate. Tastes a bit like grape juice but mostly malts, some chocolate and hops. It's okay but for a black beer it's got a lot going on. It's barely carbonated, kind of felt dead. It's definitely smooth but it seems like they tried too hard to make this unique. Pale Ale: Nice and sweet. The hops linger more than any Pale Ale I've ever had, but the peak of the hoppy taste isn't that strong. Still, I'm enjoying this beer for its sweetness and it's lingering taste. Brown Ale: Good stuff. Caramel and smooth with the right bitterness. It's the most drinkable of the bunch. Good stuff. Black & Tan: This is a nice black and tan. Great aftertaste. Probably my favorite tasting of the bunch. To gauge this it's better than than, say, the Yuengling Black & Tan for sure. And they go for the same price. I also liked Becks Dark around the same time. This was before I started really drinking darker beers. Haven't had either since. Although, that stuff is so old the ribbon was probably made of dyed woolly mammoth fur. Maybe it would be more refreshing on a hot day, but if I had a blue ribbon it would definitely not go to Pabst. But you said it best, it's really all about what you're used to when it comes to American Macros. Polarizing indeed. Never seen this one before though) Never had any of these. I have some drinking to do.... I have had HopSlam, Burning River and Yakima. HopSlam and Burning River on draft and Yakima from the bottle. Burning River was a disappointment as BeerAdvocate seemed to suggest it was hoppier than it is. HopSlam is grapefruit hop dominated which isn't my favorite hop flavor and thus it isn't my favorite DIPA and a bit overrated, IMO, but still an excellent beer. Yakima is wonderful. It is perfect for my tastes as it has a darker malt than most DIPA and is dominated by Victory hops. Enjoy. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Lancaster Milk Stout had just a touch more sweetness, but both are nice. One of my all time favorites is Abita Turbo Dog, has anyone tried it? I have not seen it in years.
