Jumbo
I knew Stevens 30 years ago. My older sister worked for him. He was the same snake then he is today and was 20 years before I met him. Yet he was a lauded Republican senator all along the way and a hero to many Alaskans for the billions in taxpayer dollars he netted them. When you're among the movers and shakers, it's not being crooked or immoral that usually gets you busted, it's what power struggle you finaly got on the wrong side of and/or who you pissed off at the wrong time. Cooked Crack
I hope William Jeffeson gets da boot too. I think we can all agree to that. I actually remember seeing that guy on the news years ago then I find out he's still a member of Congress. I guess people need a conviction for him to at least lose a close election. MurrayH81
When convicted felons win popular elections, you can say one of two things (or possibly both): 1. The System is rigged in favor of the incumbents. 2. The citizens voting are not very well educated.

Hubbs
3. The voters really don't consider integrity to be a job requirement. Honestly, that's pretty much a given in our current electoral system. I'd say #1 has a lot more to do with it.

The System is rigged in favor of the incumbents. 2. The citizens voting are not very well educated. I think in this case it was something related to #2 and that was the people of Alaska didn't respect the decision of a DC jury. You know the whole "eastern elite" crutch that alot of people seem to cling to and in the case of Alaskans apparently it extends to the whole "lower 48". This seems to be backed by the fact that Stevens was winning after election night (the votes cast that day after his conviction) but ends up losing after all the early/absentee voting has been counted (pre conviction). DeanCollins
There goes Sarah Palin's fast track path to Washington. that beotch will be forgotten about in a month or two. . Special K
Fine with me...I don't want someone of his character representing my party. Regardless of whether or not the the Democrats reach a 60 person majority in the senate, that extra Republican senate vote isn't worth keeping this weasle in office. And to be honest, I would not mind to have a filibuster-proof Democrat senate. With Democrats resoundingly in charge of the House, Senate, and Presidency, they will be held accountable for everything that comes out of Washington in the next few years, whether that be good or bad (hopefully good, but I'm not that optimistic). that beotch will be forgotten about in a month or two. . No worries, there's a job waiting for her in an oil company somewhere. Enjoy another cold dark winter baby. It is pretty funny to see that so many liberals are still so obsessed with hating Palin that it drives 48 y/o men to act like silly teenagers and call the woman names.

Burgold
Good. It would be a terrible message to send. I even think Congress should get together and put together a bill suggesting people who have been found guilty, but have not served their time in jail yet are inelligable to serve in national office.
