I'm curious because I can't get a real feel from the existing threads about whether or not people are just upset about this season or about where this team is headed.

Personally, I'm more than optimistic. Chances are guys like Springs and MW won't be here next year (would be shocked if they are) clearing some cap space. The defense is one of the best in the league despite having absolutely no pass rush and the offense, granted they have red zone troubles, can move the ball fairly well. If this team can pick up just one good DE (or if somehow Jason Taylor turns it back on) and then pick up another young O-lineman to go with Heyer, I can really see this team going places. They're young at virtually every skill position and have guys like Blades and Heyer ready to play. Throw in Golston and Montgomery on the D-line, I think this team has a lot to look forward to.

Teams like the Cowboys need to be worried...they're EXPECTED to win the super bowl this year, and without Owens (who doesn't have much left) they're nothing special. However, the Redskins are already well above anyones expectation, so how upset can we really be?

I'm very optimistic about this team long-term. I think we are some young linemen away from being a very good, deep team.

Zorn is going to be right at .500 or so for his rookie season using an offense that takes a couple years to catch. We have young contributors all over the offense and defense. If we plug some holes with youth, we'll be in great shape!

On the one hand...yes. I see stretches of good play which is encouraging. I'm far more encouraged about this current team than any in recent memory. But on the other hand I can see where we need upgrades and depth at far too many positions. A couple of seasons ago I was thinking that our O line had the potential for greatness. Now I think it needs an overhaul. Our D line is the same way now. I can't form an opinion about Taylor because he has yet to be healthy. They aren't stopping the run and they get NO pressure on the QB. We're thin at LB. Etc. Etc.

So to summarize...not sure which way this team is going. But at least we're not bottom feeders right now. We can give many teams a good game.

Long term hell yes....

Look at how well we are doing with a rookie head coach who has never even called plays. It shows but we are still finding ways to win more than we loose. We need to get more weapons on the field and get the O line playing well.

The D is better than a lot of people think. Hall was great pick up and if we can get rid of SS $$$$ and MW $$$$ and put them towards a solid DT to eat up space and push the pocket everyone will get better. We simply need to be patient.

We are ahead of schedule. People picked us to finish last in the division and we have shown we have more than that. From here it is all upside.

I see Heyer replacing Jansen long term. Reinherdt will be in the mix next year. Samuels is still solid and if we can develop some Guard talent we will be set down the road.

I think Horton is here to stay and will only get better. Lets be honest if two of the 3 WRs we took in the 2nd pan out next year we will be loaded. We will have the tools as long as Campbell continues to develop.

Tons of upside the only down is the age of the OL.

of course i'm optimistic, how can i not be and still watch every game every season

however, the team has many holes and will take 2-3 years to fix IF the FO decides to address those needs...these are the positions that needs to be addresses RT, RG, C, LG, LT, DEs, DT, LBs, CB,and RB

now, hopefully Rinehart can take over at LG, and hopefully Heyer can improve and be the RT, that still leaves 3 spots on the OL...we still need a pass rusher and a DT...Washington should be done and Fletcher isn't getting any younger and i don't see him on the team after 2 more seasons...hopefully we can resign Hall then we won't need to get a good CB, but would still need to pick a backup...yeah Portis is 27, but he's been in the league for 7 seasons and gets a lot of carries, so i don't see him being as productive when he's 29 and nears that dreadful age for RBs at 30

so hopefully over the course of the next few seasons, the FO addresses those needs with young players

I'm optimistic if something can be done about the pass protection.

I read today that the Redskins are ranked 23rd in pass protection.

JC may not be Brett Favre or Tom Brady but he has shown he can be a capable qb with more than 2 seconds to drop back, scan the field and throw. Even Zorn said yesterday how frustrated he was seeing WR plays open up downfield and Jason didn't have the time to get the ball to them.

I agree with the OP because I feel we are going in the right direction. I think that JC is a good QB but may not be the one that will lead this team to a Super Bowl. I just think that next year there will be a competition between Campbell and Brennan. It all depends on how well Campbell performs this year.

My problem is on the offense. Why aren't we taking more pages out of the Seahawks style with the way Zorn is running the Offense? Spread it out Singleback 4 wide. 3wrs and cooley or 4 wrs. The Receivers we have are talented enough to create favorable matchups against nickel and dime backs, not to mention intermediate passes can pile on YAC when the field opens up. If they start backing up, run CP on a draw for 8-10 yds.

The Seahawks used to be able to go I-form 3 WR and tear up opposing Ds with Alexander because ... their o-line was awesome! Their passing game (if memory serves me) was even more dink & dunk than ours over the years, b/c their receivers were notorious for drops (DJax, Robinson, Engram) back then. Engram seems to have learned how to catch, but the other two are done.

Im pretty optimistic. Like many have said, we are a a few O and D line players away from having a good team. We have some solid young players that can take over for Springs and the rest. To me the real issue is getting some production out of Malcolm Kelly and Devin Thomas. (Im still sour about that whole Taylor Jacobs garbage). It would be nice to get some young big men that can make plays down field.

If we draft a premiere RT and get a good replacement for MW, I think we'll be off to the races next year.

With Thomas, Kelly, and Davis having a year's experience under their belts, and our defense being as strong as it is, the only real weaknesses fall to the O-line and QB. Personally, I think Campbell is good enough to take a team to the super bowl as long as he has good protection and a reliable run game.

I sure am. i know alot of you are down on the team right now, but i still have hope. We have very good young talent all around on this team. IMO most of the problems start from the ground up, meaning, coaching staff etc.
