THUNDERDOME
Posted at 5:14 PM ET, 11/16/2008 Portis and Springs Still In Limbo; Evans To Start Tailback Clinton Portis and corner Shawn Springs are among those who still unsure if they will be able to play. Both are looking to the warm-up tonight to make a final decision. Portis missed practice all week, while Springs did take part in some drills on Friday with the first-team, according to team sources, with his torn calf still not 100 percent (Portis is dealing with a torn MCL). Springs originally was slated to do just individual drills. He told teammates he was 60-70 percent this weekend, and had yet to really sprint and cut full speed, but could still play tonight depending on how he performs during warm-ups. It looks like Ladell Betts will be back, and, again, I would not be shocked if Portis dresses and plays a sporadic role. Just my hunch there. It is very unlikely that LB Marcus Washington and DT Anthony Montgomery will be able to play. As for line-up news, DE Jason Taylor is slated to play tonight after suffering through a calf injury but Demetric Evans will remain the starter at left end, according to team sources. Evans, who is having a strong season as an end and an interior pass rusher in the nickel package, is more stout against the run and practiced with the first team this week. Taylor, who the Redskins hope can add fire to a pedestrian pass rush, could see a lot of action on third down and on passing downs, but stopping the run is always the top priority with this defense and Evans has excelled in that regard. Taylor underwent calf surgery early in the season, and than a second procedure to relieve swelling, and was inactive for the last game, against Pittsburgh. Evans has started four games previously this season. Taylor has struggled this season, but he and the team say he is feeling better than he has all season - Taylor injured his knee in the preseason - and he is eager to become a big-play threat again. 2006Skins
(Portis is dealing with a torn MCL). I thought Portis had a sprained MCL? That's scary if it is torn. We may want to look at the near future to Betts to carry our running game. You can't risk making it worse with a torn MCL. On the bright side, I think it's a smart move to start Evans over Taylor. Taylor has had trouble when the ball is ran his way, and should be used in pass rushing situations. (Super) smart move by Zorn. And to be honest, it's pretty gutsy to ask a star like Taylor to take on a situational role
TheDoyler23
Evans played very well in the past few weeks. He can get some pressure and has been pretty solid at the point of attack in the run game.

TheDoyler23
I thought Portis had a sprained MCL? That's scary if it is torn. A sprain is a tear. It requires surgery when it snaps or has been stretched/frayed beyound natural healing.

Taylorfan2179
man I really wish we had traded for taylor on conditions. He is not worth a second round pick.

281skins
A sprain is a tear. It requires surgery when it snaps or has been stretched/frayed beyound natural healing. Portis has a grade 2 MCL sprain which is a partial tear, not a complete tear. It does not require surgery.

SkinsMaster88
Wow great way to waste a 2nd round pick there Vinny and to think we could've had Favre instead:doh: Right...because we really needed a 39 year-old QB. Campbell has about the same rating as Favre this year anyhow. I wasn't crazy about the Jason Taylor trade, but we had 2 guys go down at the same position on the 1st day of training camp and a former DPOY was available. Agreed on Favre. But look who's starting in Phillip Daniel's place now.
StartColtNow
But then again we'd probably draft another WR who can't get on the field or is too stupid to learn the playbook so...
dinhlovestheskins
But then again we'd probably draft another WR who can't get on the field or is too stupid to learn the playbook so... All rookie WRs get on the field immediately? I understand your skepticism, but seriously. Every post I've seen you make has been a negative one.
