Pitbull
Fellow Redskins fans I know this is Dallas week and we have bigger fish to fry, but I wanted to get some of my fellow fans perspective on a particular reciever that plays for the University of Miami-Ohio. You see Chris Givens is my first cousin, I have followed him in the different levels of football since Pop Warner. What I am asking for, is the fans that are really into college football, to give me your perspective of his chances to make it to the next level. Im am really praying that he makes it, he is so hard on himself and really wants to be a great player. I thought he had a pretty good game last night. So please fellow fans give me your honest opinions, he is only a sophmore. Thanks for your honest post

c4man5282
Does he plan on staying through his senior year? Wrong forum also this should be another forum.
Pitbull
Yes he does plan on staying through his senior year, I aplogize if this is in the wrong forum. As you can see i dont post much, I like reading the board more than anything, I just wanted to get some opinions and perspectives. I know my opinion would be bias in his favor because he is very close family.
dwills1
In all honesty his numbers don't pop out as much.....but I'm sure if he's hard working he'll get a shot either late round or as a free agent. There are many ways to make it to the top. Semi-pro, arena league or CFL are great options as well. First goal would be to finish the season healthy and productive, then shoot for a free agent signing if late round draft doesn't happen. A D-1 coach should have some links to pro scouts and teams. IbleedBnG83
Hey man you never know. I don't know much about him. Its hard for players, especially a WR to come out of a school like Miami of Ohio without putting up some big numbers because they don't get a lot of national attention. As long as he studies film, works on his fundamentals, and works hard in the weight room, i bet he can impress some people at the combine. To bad Big Ben isn't there anymore to help him put up some nice numbers.
Pitbull
Yeah I dont disagree about the numbers, they have been in flux the past two years at the quaterback position. Im hoping by next year they will have that resolved, he has pretty good Physical atributes. He is 6-3, about 215 pounds now, and runs somewhere around a 4.4-
c4man5282
If he is only a sophmore he still has time especially if he is planning on playing through his senior year. Like IBG83 said as long as he studies film and works on everything he needs to work on he can have a future. He still has two more years after this one to show everyone what he can do he is still young.
Pitbull
Yeah I know the numbers dont pop out at you. They have been in flux at the quaterback position for a while now. Im hoping by next year they will have that resolved. He has pretty good physical atributes. He is 6-3, around 215 pounds now and runs 4.4 - 40. He averages about 17 yards per reception college career wise and has half of the teams recieveing touchdowns with 4 for the year (though I know thats not great from a team standpoint). IMO, the best thing a WR can do, aside from measurables like size and speed and of course good hands, is be able to run crisp, clean routes. If your cousin can do that, I'm telling you he will have a great opportunity.
Pitbull
Thanks for the honest replies, I believe this off-season he is suppose to work out with some pro- recievers. I think that will really help him tremdously
JaimeDeCurry
The most important thing a college player that's not a guaranteed draft pick can do is work on their technique. Look at guys like Antonio Pierce, London Fletcher, Nick Harper, Jeff Saturday, etc. They play with guys more physically gifted than them because they work on the fundamentals and are able to out-technique the guys they play against. Commander Adama
Pitbull, in my honest opinion, your cousin should stay in school until he graduates. While there he can work on his routes and techniques. Someone with solid fundamentals is essential to making the transition to the Pro level. Good luck to him! Siven
I think as others have said, your cousin should focus on running routes and perfecting his craft. Look at Devin Thomas. Exceptional physical gifts but he cant understand the playbook and he cant understand where hes supposed to be. Your cousin, if he knows where to be and how to get open, even without the physical gifts, has a fantastic shot to make it in the Pros. There is a difference between running a perfect route in training or practice, and running a perfect route in a game. If your cousin runs a perfect route, but the QB is sacked or doesn't throw to your cousin, scouts will still rate your cousin highly because he did everything possible to give his QB and his team a chance. Pitbull
Thanks guys, I will definately tell him your thoughts to work on this off-season. He is really a good kid, and he absolutely loves the game, he doesnt want to be just good, his goal is to be great. Our family is very proud of his grades first, then his work ethic and attitude he has to hopefully one day reach his utlimate dream.
