IRVING - The Dallas Cowboys moved quickly in replacing punter Mat McBriar by signing Sam Paulescu on Tuesday.

McBriar was placed on injured reserve with a fractured right foot suffered on the blocked punt in Sunday's overtime loss to Arizona. McBriar will not need surgery, but he will need 6-8 weeks to recover.

Paulescu, 24, worked out for the Cowboys on Tuesday, as did Ben Graham, who was with the New York Jets earlier this season.

Paulescu was with the Cowboys in training camp last year and punted in one game in 2007 for Denver, averaging 44.2 yards on five attempts. He was cut by the Broncos this summer after losing the battle with Brett Kern. He averaged 49.6 yards per punt in five preseason attempts for Denver.

The move reunites Paulescu with special teams coach Bruce Read. They were together at Oregon State where Paulescu became the first punter in the history of the school to earn All-Pac 10 honors. He averaged 42.7 yards per punt at Oregon State.

Doesn't look too bad from what I can see. The Cowboys were definitely moving quickly today.

… Sam Paulescu drilled a 50-yard punt that bounced and went out of bounds … but then had a 35-yard punt that was low and a 40-yard punt that also was a low line drive. He proceeded to follow those by crushing a 55-yarder.

This is Read's guy. Should be easy to fire Read in the near future.
