This week will determine how far we go this season

Interesting stat on NFL Network this morning.

Sure, you can say that week 1 is only 1 game. But since 1990, 54% of teams that won their 1st game of the regular season made the playoffs... as compared to only 25% of teams that lost their week 1 matchup.

So sure, while there are anecdotes of team that beat the odds.... and that's what keeps you from killing yourself.... that stats bear out that it isn't very likely.

And if people want to keep harping on those anecdotes and playing the low odds... tell them to put their money where their mouth is. Take the odds..... and then keep his car, house, and wife -- let him keep his kids :)

I don't even need a win. I need competence this week. I am fully prepared to be pretty bad record wise after the first five. 2-3 would be a big win in my opinion. This team has something that no other team in the division has, a great ability to improve. The eagles are the eagles, giants are the giants, boys are the boys. They are what they are. We on the other hand ARE learning a new system. That means we have a much more reasonable expectation of drastic improvement throughout the season. Just making it competitve at this juncture with the likes of the Saints would speak volumes to where we should ultimately be toward the latter half of the season.

If we started 2-6 and ended the season 8-8 I would not ***** about it. I would be more bothered if we were 8-8 and won every other game throughout the season. Losing right now because we are "learning" I can handle. Being completely inept because we suck is quite a different thing. They don't have to win for me sunday (although I would LOVE it). They have to improve and after NY last week it really isn't that tall of an order. I want to see some first downs, maybe a field goal or two and a real touchdown drive while continuing to protect the ball (something they actually DID well in the debacle at the meadowlands).

If u believe so then its not the end of the season.....so the skins can drop this second game if they want and be crying at the end of the season wishing they had only beaten the Saints who grabs the last WC spot in a much improved NFC!!!

This is the kind of stuff that happens when we expect and accept losing!

Marty wasn't a rookie head coach :)

Marty only lasted one year, as I remember - can't really call that a success. I'll give you a clue as to who I was talking about.....

Gibbs 1.0 started out 0-5.

Thanks, mbws, nice to see someone remembers what I was talking about.

sarcasm i'm detecting...

That is what I had intended (though it seems lots of folks missed the two wink-winks I left, maybe I need to do the rolling eyes next time).

Usually a smiley-face is used in place of 'THIS POST IS MADE AS A JOKE' words. I guess next time I'll put the actual words in there instead of the emoticon.

Thanks for the feedback.

Definitely true. We've seen during the last 2 playoff years that a team can find its rhythm late in the season, or anytime during the season, and make up for slow starts or bad streaks.

You're absolutely right! Didn't we have that same kind of streak last year? When JC got injured and Todd Collins stepped in, this team played lights out into the playoffs.

I'm expecting once JC is benched, this team will play to it's ability and possibly make that same run to the playoffs again.

Man what hurts is we could of won that game last week. We lost for all the wrong reasons. If we can have are line hold a little longer. Our WR not drop easy passes. Our QB step up just a little. Our coach call better plays and get some first downs, I think the play calling was so bad we could never find a groove. We have the talent to win this year. So lets put it together. None of this 3 year crap I want to win now. So its sets up for our playoff run!!

So, the blame lies with the QB, the receivers, the line, and the coaching? Man, you aren't instilling me with a lot of confidence. :)

I was holding out hope prior to the season that the 2008 Redskins would mirror the 2007 Cowboys. It's funny because the situations are SO similar. In both cases, a young innovative coach took over the offense of a team previously headed by a HOF coach. Both teams had gone 9-7 the previous year and were one and done in the playoffs at Seattle. Every comparison seems to be there except for the "winning" part.

A true redskins fan stands by this team and doesn't make stupid remarks about how JC stinks, season is over after one game and so on. This team is a 11-5 team and will make the playoffs this year. People need to stop pouting and get UP for this team.

a true fan stands by the T E A M not by the player. JC is holding this team back homeslice. but i will hold off on him till after the first couple of division games, if hes terrible, he needs to be replaced midseason. i dont wanna hear, give him some time blah blah blah, hes had his time. they run the same goddamn routes, its just different terminology.

hes running shotgun more this week, (hopefully) so we will see how he does. i personally think he well do great because he looks very comfortable back there, and in turn will open up the run game for portis. aint that what the WC offense is all about?
