zoony
Tennessee is still a college sports state. Of course it is, and probably always will be, like the rest of the southeast. Florida, Georgia, NC, SC, etc. The only one that isn't is Virginia. That doesn't mean that TN fans don't understand poor QB play when they see it. Peyton Manning is still worshipped here- Casey Claussen is forgotten. Just re-read above post and probably came off harsher than I intended... just saying that QB's are indeed important in the NFL, and fans have every right to boo. Peyton Manning is a hero. My cousins who live in Brownwood and Knoxville are hard core college Football fans who expect to win year after year...as I think most Tennesseans are used to. The rigor of the NFL and the unknown talent levels of NFL teams is not something they are used too. I know many people in TN think Heath Shuler was ruined by the Redskins. They know football, just not used to football at the pro level.
Tennessee Ed
The whole state loves the Vols. The whole state doesn't love the Nashville Titans. Tits made the playoffs with no WR's last year. Didn't draft any WR's this year. So the plan is to run the ball and play defense. Jeff Fisher is an old school coach, three yards and a cloud of dust. The first pick in the draft is all that you need to look at to understand the Tits. The Vince Young situation is a little overblown, dude is 25. I am not a big Titan's fan, but Jeff Fisher credits Dexter Manley with helping him make the transition from player to coach..... Dexter knocked Jeff out while returning a punt for the Bears! :point2sky Hail

The first pick in the draft is all that you need to look at to understand the Tits. This bothers me. Of course, you can't do well without running the football. BUt there's a reason our offense hasn't been effective the last few years or so. Two words: ONE-DIMENSIONAL. If what you're saying is true, then Fisher is the second coming of Gibbs II - playing 80's Football in 2008. If that's the case, he won't last long in the NFL. I have no problem with being a running team. The Steelers are a running team. But they have receiving options designed to take pressure off Parker and Mendenhall so that they can actually run with better effectiveness without having the entire defense in the box waiting to tackle them. Same thing with the Jags. They actually invested money in getting something of a receiving squad. Same with the Vikes the past two years with their acquisition of Sidney Rice and their pickup of the FA Bernard Berrian. In any case, Vince Young can be a good QB, but he needs help. Not Randy Moss, but somebody that can, like most other #1s in the league, catch at least 70 balls for him in a season and someone he can throw deep to. Every quarterback - especially a young one - needs that. That's part of the problem with JC. Santana's been limited with injuries for most of JC's starting career so they haven't been able to establish that chemistry. There was a time when a team with a good running game could run all day. Back then, linemen weren't quite as strong and linebackers weren't quite as fast. A good receiver almost always has some sort of advantage over a corner in 1-on-1 coverage, because receivers have been getting at least bigger, if not faster, while corners are still mostly 5'10"-6'1" and 180-200 with a few exceptions. Peregrine
The problem with the Titans is, they have a child at QB. Thats really what he is. I think at Texas, because everyone loved him, it hadnt surfaced yet.

I lived in Memphis for 8 years and I'm a Mempis State alum and I can tell you that not only do I, but alot of people in West Tennessee can't stand them. I root against the Vols every chance I get in football and basketball. Never have and never will like them.
