Disorder drives man to eat 23,000 Big Macs

54-year-old says OCD drove him to eat a burger nearly every day since 1972

FOND DU LAC, Wis. - A 54-year-old man says his obsessive-compulsive disorder drove him to eat 23,000 Big Macs in 36 years.

Fifty-four-year-old Don Gorske says he hit the milestone last month, continuing a pleasurable obsession that began May 17, 1972 when he got his first car.

Gorske has kept every burger receipt in a box. He says he was always fascinated with numbers, and watching McDonald's track its number of customers motivated him to track his own consumption.

The only day he skipped a Big Mac was the day his mother died, to respect her request.

The correctional-institution employee says he doesn't care when people call his Big Mac obsession crazy. He says he's in love with the burgers, which are the highlights of his days.

Basically, the burger alone isn't so bad...I mean it's not good, but it isn't that terrible. The bad thing is what most people get with it- fries, soda, etc. Those things add on the calories quite a bit, but for the most part assuming this man eats just a big mac every day for one meal that only accounts for 540 calories total.

Lets just say the guy is 6'1, 180 pounds, and 54 years old. His base metabolic rate (according to a site I'm looking on right now) is somewhere around 1,700 calories excluding any extra exercise he may have during the day which could easily put that number up to 2,000 or so. 540 for one meal out of the day isn't that crazy. Add on a medium order of fries at 380 calories, and a medium coke at 210 calories however and you have a 1130 calorie meal just in one meal out of the day which on a 1700-2000 calorie intake would be too much for a single meal.

This of course doesn't account for health concerns...calories and weight resulting from calories consumed are but one part of being healthy, and I would be willing to bet that unless this guy is blessed with some very good genetics something in his body is being adversely affected by his Big Mac diet...could be arteries being clogged, liver overloaded with a bad substance, who knows...eating a Big Mac every day might not make you fat but it can't possibly be good for you.

Oh and as for this guy eating a big mac every day since the year the Dolphins went undefeated...what a nutjob.

:applause: the fries and the soda and probably the worst thing. Protein/fat is very satiating for most people. Of course the sandwich itself is served on white bread, and the ketchup/special sauce probably has a good amount of sugar.
